Since childhood, I have always understood the power of physical touch, whether it be a hug or a pat on the back from a friend or family member, or a massage from an educated and caring professional. Yoga has been a more recent discovery. I found it during a challenging time of my life. It spoke to me, and I listened. As a result, I am a changed person - mentally, physically, emotionally, and spiritually. While I had received massage for years, it was yoga that opened a door that allowed me to envision my participation in massage not only as a recipient, but also as a practitioner. I enrolled in school and immediately felt at home. I enjoyed learning the science portion of massage, anatomy, physiology, and such. I found even greater joy and gratitude in the opportunity to support people as they worked to become more comfortable in their own bodies. Clients left the massage clinic with relief from chronic or constant pain, fewer muscle aches, and/or feeling more relaxed and less stressed. If they wanted to, clients also left with a more detailed and accurate understanding of how their bodies worked, and were on a path toward a stronger mind-body connection. With massage and movement, big changes are possible. When I’m not massaging, or practicing or teaching yoga, you’ll find me tutoring Spanish, hanging out with family and friends, reading, or listening to music. Inspired by the care provided to me by skilled and knowledgeable therapists who are now my friends and professional peers, I now hope to share with others the power that paying attention to your body in loving ways can play in your life.
