I have been in helping professions for over 25 years. I began by getting becoming a Licensed Massage Therapist, and a Licensed Occupational Therapy Assistant. I believe in helping others to achieve their greatest level of freedom from pain possible and to realize peace and joy in their lives. In short, I believe there is no shame in seeking help and no better time to do it than now, after all, this is the only life you have, why go through it in pain? I began giving massages to my dad at the rip-'ol-age of 5! After that I became the unofficial massage therapist for every team or marching band I ever joined. Realizing I had an aptitude for it, I decided to go to the Honolulu School of Massage in 1997 and became licensed in that same year. Ultimately, I wanted to use massage therapy as a means to help people reduce stress and the pain we create in our bodies through daily life activities and leave them feeling amazing. I am licensed by the MBLEx through the Federation of State Massage Therapy Boards (FSMTB), I also hold an active massage therapy license in the state of Maryland. I have been previously licensed in the states of Maine and Hawaii. I also am a nationally Certified Occupational Therapy Assistant (COTA) by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy, Inc. (NBCOT) and hold a license as a COTA in the state of Maryland. I don't often practice massage these days, but I am also a National Certified Counselor (NCC), a Licensed Graduate Professional Counselor (LGPC) and a Licensed Graduate Marriage and Family Therapist (LGMFT). I have worked with adults and teenagers; individuals, couples, and families. In every situation, I have found that we are not meant to go through struggles alone, and it is the false belief that we should go through them alone that keeps us in pain, sad, fearful, and alone. I use a broad range of techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Structural Therapy, Guided Imagery, and Narrative Therapy. No matter which modality is employed the driving approach used is a Person-Centered approach, which means that YOU are at the center of the goals and the direction of the therapy – it isn’t about me…it’s about you and what you need! In my years of experience, I have worked with a multi-cultured client base from various races, religions, and genders. I have helped children deal with impulse control issues, families adjust to stressors in the home, couples address infidelity and marital struggles, and helped many individuals deal with depression, shame, anxiety, bi-polar disorder, and stress management. Though I do not impose my faith on any of my clients, I have also worked in pastoral care and am happy to work with clients who would like to keep God in their discussion. My office, Intuitive Wellness Crofton and Intuitive Counseling (an office of the Relationship Repair Shop https://www.drstephanieonline.com) is located at 2126 Espey Court, Suite B, Crofton, MD 21114. At present, my counseling services are only available through virtual appointments.
