Listening to your body's cues helps Nicci tailor your session to provide maximum results. She has a lot of effective tools acquired through 23 years of clincal therapeutic massage experience and continjing education. Clients have said:
"Its not a normal massage, its more like physical therapy, but different.", "you help me see how everything is connected, that often 2 pain areas are related", "its always different, you just do what I need, and you tend know where that is, even when I couldn't feel it in my body."
In Nicci's words
I started with muscles as my focus with trigger point and deep tissue work. I gained understanding and skill for fascial system, lymphatic system and the nervous/energetic system as my palpation skills became more specific. Thus far, my niche seems to be: reflexology and corrective bodywork. But there is such benefit in knowing more about how each system presents discomfort. Pain in the body, often described as muscle pain, can be from myofascia (sheath around muscle groups), the muscle itself, lymph, nerve or a combination. Sometimes pain is from something I can't find a connection to and therefore will refer out to other health care professionals. Corrective bodywork focuses on myofascia and flexibility of tissues. Reflexology and associated energy/nerve techniques are for the nervous/energetic system. Lymphatic drainage is best utilized for autoimmune deficiencies and issues with swelling. These are 3 distinct techniques for different systems in the body that can be utilized on their own for an hour session. Reflexology, boiled down to its simplest is: the best parts of a pedicure done with precision and restorative purpose FOR AN HOUR. Its glorious. Corrective bodywork is a combination of all the tools in my toolbox, focused to ease tension patterns and restore function. This has been my calling card for years. I have found that I hesitate to use the words "deep tissue" anymore, because that usually conjures a vision of a merciless elbow and an unyielding therapist. I prefer to ease into deeper layers of tissue. Your body will reach a point that it PAINLESSLY allows me to access deeper tissue.
While I gravitate toward techniques from sports, orthopedic, deep tissue, trigger point, myofascial release, strain-counter strain, reflexology, and cupping. I will use whatever is in my toolbox that you need. Swedish, lymphatic, cranio-sacral therapy, hot stone and more. I use these techniques with all demographics: athlete, pregnant, youth, geriatric, abled adult or disabled adult. Adjustments to postural needs with pillows or positioning based on severity of tension patterns or varying abilities. Understanding your structures (joint, muscle, fascia, energetic flow, lymph), how it presents to my hands and how to affect it for balance sets me apart from a general massage. I do rely on your feedback to confirm or deny what I believe needs worked on at the time. After all, it is your session and your body. I cannot feel your feels. I am very concerned about your modesty and use proper draping at all times. If undressing/redressing is an issue for you, feel free to wear athletic wear for your session. For example: lycra, cotton, spandex. No Jeans, textured or thick fabric, please. I look forward to problem solving with you to find the best path to pain relief. I cannot diagnose or treat, as per the law and limitations of my license. I love being a part of your wellness plan and am thankful for all medical fields. Except for maybe dentistry...just kidding, we need dentists too. On that note... see a lot of jaw pain clients, I have found some useful techniques from my cranio-sacral therapy training with gentle in the mouth techniques. Thanks for reading all the way to the end! I hope to see you soon!
