About Fractal Massage Collective
The seeds of Fractal Massage Collective were planted in 2024. Partners Esjay and Andy wanted to create a massage experience that incorporated our desire to help clients achieve their bodily goals with our knowledge of movement and anatomy. We believe that there ought to be a standard of knowledge of the human body in the field of bodywork; while all healing touch has intuitive elements, we are committed to understanding the physical reality of each client's body. Our years of experience in personal training, fitness, and circus arts inform the way that we work with clients, and we are always looking for new avenues for growth for ourselves, which we know will translate into client outcomes as well.
As two passionate, queer, and gender nonconforming individuals, we cultivate a radically inclusive space. You are welcome here!
About Esjay
As a lifelong mover, circus artist, and sufferer of Functional Neurological Disorder, I am more than aware of how movement is a form of medicine. In my personal healing journey, movement and bodywork have provided the light I needed to see at the end of the tunnel. Bodywork represented that extra “push” that was needed to put me on the path to truly start understanding the issues occurring in my body and why I was experiencing the pain I was enduring. This journey has informed how I practice bodywork - my passion for movement as modality for healing the body is evident in my approach. I focus on functional alignment, corrective exercise, stretch therapy, and trigger point therapy.
Massage can be for all bodies, but our current healthcare system is not. As a queer and trans individual, I understand the ways that traditional healthcare services fail trans bodies. My approach is inclusive and trauma-informed to ensure the safety of all bodies that are on my table.
About Andy
“Mind over matter” is a common mantra that permeates our lives. Whether you are more committed to self-help or to helping yourself, the myth is that if we build up enough determination and mental fortitude, then we can overcome any obstacle. But what about those of us for whom our body—our very own matter—is the obstacle? What would it even mean to overcome your own body? My primary belief is that this “mind over matter” mentality is a primary cause of pain and discomfort, and that it has to go.
In my reckoning, our bodies affect our mind more than the reverse. Anyone who has had a tension headache or chronic back pain can tell you how much effort it takes to put on a smile. Conversely, if you ever figure out how to get rid of a headache just by changing your attitude, please tell me!
With this in mind, my clients are primarily people who want to experience relief from pain patterns that they have not been able to address themselves. Sometimes these patterns are a result of postural misalignment, and other times it is because of an over-active nervous system. With a basis in Swedish massage, I incorporate elements of trigger point therapy and postural exercise to help my clients feel more aligned both physically and mentally.
