Hello My Loves,
My name is Taya J, LMT & Wellness Practitioner
I hold a clinical nutrition degree, am a licensed massage therapist, reiki level II practitioner, artist & ever-learning Rootworker (I love working with plants, herbs, spiritual tools and their magic). I have 5+ years experience in the body focused wellness space, with over two of those being specialized in massage therapy and energy work.
But before that, if we strip away the titles; I am: Black, Alternative, Queer, Gender non conforming, and into all things whimsical & woo-woo.
- What is my approach to wellness practices?
I believe that wellness isn’t a one size fits all lifestyle approach, especially the washed out versions or trends that are typically sold to us who don’t fall into the traditional mold.
As someone who knows how it feels to be disconnected from mind, body and or spirit at different points in my life, I have a deep understanding of where the ‘starting point’ is when it comes to recovery and wellness as a whole. Being someone who does struggle with mood disorders and balancing mental health over the years, i have finally found a place of balance through physical self care routines, spiritual hygiene and yes, a lil bit of magic, and cannot wait to share what I have learned to work, with you!
Wellness and self care so often can feel unachievable with our full & busy lives because there ‘isn’t enough time’ or ‘not enough energy left’ to take care of ourselves after answering to all of what others and the day/week/month asks of us. Especially in a world that is made to keep us going, even after the point of burnout, my approach to finding what works for you comes from taking a ‘whole-istic’ view on your current demands and needs as an individual and adding in what I can to fill in the gaps as your trusted practitioner.
- What personal or professional moments led me to pursue healing?
Personally, I have always been interested in being there for others and helping in the ways that I can to provide a safe space. from early on i would work with kids; babies through eventually high school, teaching, babysitting and nannying and have always been nurturing by nature (as my business name references hehe). As I went through and completed my first college degree in clinical nutrition & education in 2020 and then working in the field with all ages up to senior citizens, helping people find small changes in their lifestyles through nutrition and movement to promote wellbeing fascinated me and after a few years in that field i wanted to do more hands on healing to further my life path towards my true calling. By my early 20’s from life stressors and situations, i had developed chronic pain that was becoming a major hindrance in my daily life, it wasn’t until my friend and eventual mentor on my journey to massage school, gave me my first ever massage that i left the table feeling like i never have before, the absence of discomfort in that moment made it all click for me. I needed to help other people like me feel relief like this as a career.
I knew this was the fulfillment I was looking for.
I then enrolled in Aveda’s 750 hour Massage Therapy program in early 2024, graduated later that year after having passed my MBLEX, secured a strong foundational massage therapy job with additional training & immediately began working my magic by being a conduit for healing in others lives.
- What piqued my interest to add energy work & magical elements to my skillset?
I was first introduced to Reiki in massage school as one of our instructors is a reiki master and taught us basic principles and concepts. This fueled my interest to learn more and fast forward to early 2026 I was finally able to to invest in my reiki I & II attunements! It has been a beautiful journey learning to integrate my massage therapy experience with my love for reiki as a combined practice. Body & Energy work are both deeply spiritual to me and through the years, even before massage school, but definitely during. My pull to discover and develop my gifts became stronger, learning to slow down and be more intentional gave me the time and space to study and practice more spiritually and dip my toes into the world of magic, herbalism and now finding my home in rootwork. Working with plants, crystals, herbs and other tools to find natural remedies and craft up special workings that, well; work, has been such a deeply satisfying journey alongside my always developing healing skills.
My Ideal clients are individuals who may be any assortment of; queer, gender non conforming, neurodivergent, POC, feeling burnt out or excluded from other spaces, haven’t found a safe space to truly let go and be held, and or may be holding trauma from experiences that have not been inclusive or safe for self expression in the past.
I encourage expression of whatever makes you feel most you when you are with me. I welcome all bodies ready for healing in a trauma informed practice. I want the services and experience that I offer, firstly, to be inviting, but most importantly; accessible to my community that I desire to serve. if this sounds like the vibe you feel you align with and what you want to see from your practitioner, then I cannot wait to have you in my space on your healing journey!
