ABOUT REST & DIGEST THERAPEUTICS
The name “Rest & Digest Therapeutics” (R&DT) is a figurative tip of the hat to the Parasympathetic Nervous System, the PSNS. When we ease out of fight or flight, freeze or fawn — the automatic, and sometimes unhelpful, response to perceived danger — we enter into rest and digest. This state of relaxation is where the body can more efficiently run life-sustaining processes, and the prefrontal cortex can facilitate better self awareness and decision making.
The hope of R&DT is to intentionally engage the soft tissues of the body in a way that allows for the PSNS to take its rightful turn in the driver’s seat.
Tia, a Mystic at heart, is passionate about connecting with others and the Mystery of All That Is. She believes that according to ancient wisdom literature, the highest commandment is to love, and that peace and resilience are powerful forces.
Outside of work, she enjoys animals, time in nature, singing, cooking, and organizing quality time with the ones she loves.
She has past experience as a Gymnastics coach and as an Administrative Assistant working alongside PE and Health educators. Her education consists of a Bachelor’s degree (‘12) from UIC in Sociology and Gender & Women’s Studies, Master’s level coursework in Public Health (‘13) also at UIC, and a Massage Therapy Certificate from CLC (‘19). She studied the fundamentals of Thai Massage in Alajuela, Costa Rica through LMT Success Group in ‘23.
R&DT values include Compassionate Care, Community, and Curiosity.
ABOUT TRAUMA INFORMED & CONSCIOUS BODYWORK
Trauma informed & conscious bodywork is not a particular technique used on the table, rather it’s a way of approaching client interactions and the treatment room, no matter what type of service is being offered. “Trauma Informed” means that the practitioner is familiar with the physiology of the body, the impact of trauma on these processes, and trauma theory. “Trauma Conscious” care is the intentional application of this information.
The goal of trauma informed and conscious bodywork is not to heal the client. It’s to foster an environment, to the best of the practitioner’s ability, in which the client can practice reestablishing a sense of self, healthy boundaries, and resilience.
It’s important to note that many individuals who have experienced trauma will require more than a Massage Therapist on their Journey. It’s often of great benefit, and R&DT’s recommendation, that clients have a diverse team of practitioners to partner with, whether that be other holistic service providers, a licensed therapist, psychiatrist, and/or the in-depth support that comes with admission to a treatment center.
