WHAT IS MYOFASCIAL RELEASE?
The John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach is a hands on treatment that addresses fascial restrictions throughout the entire body. It is a form of communication in which the therapist uses prolonged, gentle holds to convey a message of safety to the client's body, allowing enough time for the body to respond by unravelling its restrictions, and, in effect, heal itself.
WHAT IS FASCIA?
Fascia is a continuous three dimensional system spanning the entire body that resembles and behaves like a spider web. A fly in a spider web creates tension throughout the web, not just where it is snared. Likewise, a fascial restriction in one part of the body can have effects that reach far beyond the site of restriction and can cause seemingly unrelated symptoms in distant parts of the body. For example, a restriction in the pelvic area may be the cause of a person’s headaches. Fascial restrictions are caused by trauma - physical and emotional. When restrictions occur, posture is pulled out of alignment and up to 2,000 pounds of pressure per square inch can be placed on pain sensitive structures such as nerves, vessels, organs, and muscles. When fascia is unrestricted, or “healthy,” it supports proper body alignment and function which creates an optimal environment for cells to thrive. Fascia is around and within every part of the body - from muscles, bones, and organs to every single cell. Thus, myofascial release is able to get to the root cause, and this is precisely why the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach is so effective.

ABOUT BETSY
Elizabeth “Betsy” DeSalle is a registered nurse and a licensed massage therapist. She graduated from Rutgers University with a Bachelor of Science in Exercise Science and Sports Studies and from The University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey with a Bachelor of Science in Nursing. She is also a graduate of The Barberio School of Massage, and she specializes in the John F. Barnes Myofascial Release Approach.
Before becoming an MFR therapist, Betsy was diagnosed with a slew of complicated medical issues. Unfortunately, she was unable to achieve adequate relief from traditional medicine, and she rejected the idea that the symptoms from these conditions would shape her new “normal." Years of incorporating acupuncture, chiropractic care, and energy work with herbs, supplements, and dietary changes, allowed her to stabilize. While each of these treatments was integral to her recovery, she had hit a wall. She was convinced that myofascial release was the missing link, and the emotional and physical healing that she has received from it is unparalleled.
Betsy is proud to practice myofascial release in her hometown of Vineland, New Jersey and is passionate about helping her clients restore their health and mobility, achieve pain relief, and discover their innate ability to heal.
