From the Appa(lay)chian Mountains of NY/New England, I grew up watching through hikers, farmers, and healthcare workers sharing about their aches and pains, and making a few of my own playing in the mountains. I came up sort of hippy, my folks were late to the 60's but my dad made up for it with communes and ashrams and sweat lodges, etc. So I was drawn to energy work as part of my deep, nature-based faith. Reiki was my first calling into the healing arts, allowing me to aid people in their physical, emotional and spiritual healing journeys. On moving to the South to be near my in-laws I was able to attend a wonderful school, the Maiden School of Massage and Bodywork Therapy. Now I have other ways of healing with my hands, and I know that this is what I was always, always meant to do. As a little kid I would go around the dinner tables giving shoulder massages to the grown ups. My hands could feel where and how to move along the muscles to provide relief with the right pressure. Every single one of those adults said I should charge money for that, or I should become a masseuse, remember this was the 70's/80's so massage therapist wasn't a common term yet. I continue to be a massage nerd, watching videos of well-respected practitioners showing specific ways of working with chronic issues like sciatic pain, carpal tunnel pain, TMJ, fibromyalgia, and more. Already in 2022 I have become certified in Bowen Therapy and am planning the next specialty certification, to bring the best opportunities for healing to my clients. My husband and I live in Granite Falls, where I practice from home on Tuesdays. We have a doggy, Oliver, an old kitty, The Minx, and a kitten named Althea who is all boldness and curiosity. We ride our dual sport motorcycles all over these mountains and this beautiful western North Carolina, and when it's nice enough, kayaking is our second favorite thing to do. Now we can do these all over the place thanks to our camper and we are absolutely loving it.
