I have been in the massage and bodywork industry as a therapist and teacher for 30 years. My initial training was in Shiatsu but I am also trained in western massage (Swedish, trigger point therapy, Neuromuscular and myofascial work) and have done extensive continuing education in Thai, manual lymph drainage, and Tuina.
I specialize in working with health-conscious working and retired professionals who are committed to ongoing body maintenance to stay healthy. I also have many years of experience working clients with medical conditions who are seeking a complement to western medical treatments.
My approach to bodywork draws on the strengths of eastern and western approaches. I use western massage methods such as trigger point therapy, myofascial release and neuromuscular therapy to address acute or chronic muscle pain or tension. I use Shiatsu, Anma and Thai techniques along the meridians to balance the flow of energy and the nervous system, which can help with mental and physical health conditions such as headaches, chronic fatigue, anxiety, depression, allergies, menstrual pain, infertility, and poor digestion.
My approach is also highly individualized to the person. To me, each client is like a puzzle with a unique assortment of interlocking structural and energetic patterns. I try to used the best tools for that particular person at that moment.
I tend to work slowly, deliberately, intentfully, and methodically at a medium/deep level to support the gradual release of tension. I listen to client and their body throughout the session to help determine he flow and the focus. I also incorporate very specific trigger and acu point work.
As an educator I have developed and taught many courses including beginning and advanced Shiatsu, Chinese Medicine theory, bodywork for Special populations (cancer, pregnancy, trauma, fribromyalgia), Communication, Ethics, and Professional Development. I draw extensively on that information and try to educate my clients as well.
I am an AOBTA (American Organization for Bodywork Therapies of Asia) Certified Practitioner and Instructor. I currently serve on the Board as the Education Director.
