Policies & Procedures as of March 2026
We want to make sure that your body and mind can continue receiving the care and relaxation it needs now, more than ever - without concern. We have always been on top of our cleaning and sanitation for the health of our clients and ourselves.
Here are some extra measures we are following here at Essentially Balanced Massage:
1. We take clients by appointment only. First-time clients do need to call, text, or send us an email to set up the first session. No walk-in client availability. Our front door will be locked while our massage therapists are in session.
2. Please arrive at your session at your scheduled time unless directed by your therapist. We will unlock the front door 5 Minutes before your start time of your session.
As stated above, we do lock our front door when we are in session.
3. Online booking is available for current clients. You can always call, text or email to book your session or to ask questions prior to booking your session if you'd like.
4. Cancellations & No Shows Policy -Please understand that other clients may be competing for your appointment time. Please notify us at least 24 hours in advance of any cancellation. Please be courteous to our other clients and us here at Essentially Balanced Massage, give a 24-hour notice for any cancellation or rescheduling. All cancellations less than 24 hours are subject to a cancellation fee 50 % -100% of the service cost. Clients that have 1 or more last-minute cancellations may be required to prepay for all future services. All no shows will be required to pay full price for service missed and will be blocked from any future online bookings until payment is received. All clients that are charged a fee will be sent an invoice for any missed sessions.
5. Late Arrivals Policy - Clients arriving late for their scheduled appointment may receive a shortened treatment time to ensure that the next client’s appointment is not delayed. Please understand that we cannot adjust pricing for reduced service time due to late arrival. If you arrive more than15 minutes late, we reserve the right to cancel or reschedule your appointment.
6. Inappropriate Behavior Policy - Essentially Balanced Massage has a zero-tolerance policy for solicitations of any kind. Massage therapy is for relaxation and therapeutic purposes only. There is no sexual component to massage whatsoever. Any insinuation, joke, gesture, conversation, or request otherwise will result in immediate termination of your session and a refusal of all services in the future. You will be charged the full-service fee regardless of the length of your session. Depending on the behavior exhibited we may also file a report with the local authorities if necessary. Treat your therapist with respect and dignity and you will be treated the same in return.
7. At Essentially Balanced Massage, our intention is to offer a space that feels safe, respectful, and deeply nurturing for every client and therapist. To maintain the integrity of this environment, our licensed massage therapists may refuse or discontinue a session at any time when continuing would compromise safety, comfort, or professional ethics.
Reasons a session may be declined or ended
A therapist may choose not to begin or may end a session when any of the following situations arise:
• Illness or medical contraindications that make massage unsafe or inappropriate.
• Impairment from drugs or alcohol that affects safety or judgment.
• Inappropriate, sexual, or disrespectful behavior, including comments, requests, or actions that cross professional boundaries.
• Requests that fall outside the therapist’s scope of practice, training, or licensure.
• Hygiene concerns that make treatment unsafe or unsanitary.
• Violation of practice policies, including refusal to follow draping, intake, or conduct guidelines.
• Any situation in which the therapist feels unsafe, disrespected, or unable to provide care responsibly.
Professional boundaries and therapeutic fit
We honor the therapeutic relationship and the importance of working within our strengths. If a therapist feels that their work is not effectively supporting your treatment goals, they may recommend another Licensed Massage Therapist—either within our practice or externally—whose skills or specialty may better meet your needs. This is always done with respect, transparency, and your well‑being in mind.
Our commitment to fairness and respect
This policy is applied consistently and with compassion. We do not refuse service based on race, color, religion, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or any other protected characteristic under Maine and federal law.
Our intention
These policies exists to protect the therapeutic process, uphold professional standards, and preserve the peaceful, healing atmosphere that defines Essentially Balanced Massage. We appreciate your understanding and partnership in helping us maintain a space where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported.
8. Monitored office cleaning. Before, in between clients, and at the end of our day, we clean all surfaces that may be touched, including floors, walls, cash out devices, bathrooms, door handles and even clothes hangers. Each treatment room will now have a Germ Guardian HEPA air purifier & UV sanitizer. This will reduce up to 99.97% of harmful germs, dust, pollen, mold spores and kills airborne virus like influenzea, staph and rhinovirus.
9. Clearing Energy. These are stressful times. Let US take care of YOU! We encourage you to make an appointment and allow yourself some time to escape the madness with a massage with the certainty of knowing you are safe in our squeaky-clean rooms. We often clear the energy in our space, as well. We do use Palo Santo, NagChampa or White Sage to clear the energy almost every morning.
9. We are NOT currently offering Couples Massages right now. We do not have a treatment room large enough. You do have the option of booking a session at the same time for two people, in separate rooms. Please contact us to schedule an appointment like this. There are no online options.
10. If you have received a vaccine or booster within 48 Hours of your scheduled time, please contact your massage therapist to reschedule. We learned some new information regarding massage and the vaccine, and it is not recommended for clients to receive care until 48 hours after any vaccination shot. This is for the safety of our staff and for the client's safety as well.
11. Gift certificates are still available to purchase online. We do not always have a receptionist. You may also call ahead and schedule a time to come in to purchase a gift certificate.
Due to price changes over the years; any Gift certificates purchased before March 2025 will be redeemable at the dollar amount the gift certificate was purchased for. If you have lost your gift certificate, no worries, just give us a call and we can locate your gift certificate.

13. We do have ON Street parking right in front of our center and we also have a parking lot at the back of our center.
14. Methods of Payment: We accept Cash or Cards. We accept all major credit cards, FHA & HSA accounts.
