In 1980, at age 27, a catastrophic injury changed the course of my life. I went from owning my own business and being vital and healthy, to sustaining a serious back injury that carved 5 years out of my life. The injury led to 4 related surgeries in less than 5 years, with a great deal of time spent being bed-ridden. It ultimately cost me my business and eventually my marriage of 14 years.
Now this may sound like the beginning of a tragedy, but in fact, it was the beginning of a miracle. The journey to heal my back turned into a life long commitment to not only my personal growth but to facilitating the healing and personal growth of others.
After the hospital rehabilitation from my last surgery, I was released into the care of a physical therapist in Sonoma County who had the wisdom to include, in his practice, alternative healing modalities. After a month of working with him, he started me working with a man who did a combination of Feldenkrais and Upledger-based Craniosacral Therapy. Two months later, after years of pain and disability, I was well enough to begin working for this man. I set up a practice for him and he started me on the road to learning the skills that I have been using ever since.
My journey opened a hunger for knowledge in me, that I have pursued ever since. I continue to add to my skills every year, either through life experience or further training's.
What started as a journey to heal the body quickly became a journey to heal the body, mind and spirit. I learned early on that you can’t heal one without healing all. I studied countless touch-related therapies. I studied meditation, and I delved deeply into the realms of the unconscious mind. I took what I learned and taught my clients to use these altered states to work on themselves. All of this became the practice I now call ‘Integrative Bodywork’. Still hungering for more, I became a “Certified Clinical Hypnotherapist”. This gave me even more and better skills for guiding people on their own healing journey. I continued to love the work that I did and the people that I worked with, and yet still felt there must be more.
One day, as I was listening to Esther Hicks channeling “Abraham”, it hit me. The missing piece was about self empowerment!
The thing that I was trying to do with my clients was to empower them to heal themselves. The problem was, in all the methods I used, they felt I was healing them. It didn’t matter what I thought, it mattered what they thought. I wanted to find a way to put the power into the hands of each and every individual I came across. I continued to study the teaching of Abraham, and anything else on metaphysics and self empowerment that I could. I also studied with “The Coaches Training Institute”, known among coaching professionals as the ‘Harvard’ of coaching schools, and became a “Certified Professional Co-Active Coach”. I also completed the curriculum at Center for Right Relationship to become a "Organization and Relationship System Certified Coach". Including this base of knowledge and experience in my practice has brought me to where I am today. I bring all that I know, all that I have experienced, and all that I am to each session or class that I am a part of.
I am committed to facilitating, for myself and every human being that I interact with, a life of full and complete self empowerment and self responsibility. From this, it is my belief, comes happiness, fulfillment and self expression.
