Mac Murphy, CMT — Massage Therapist & Esalen® Massage Teacher
I grew up immersed in the healing culture of Esalen Institute in Big Sur, where massage, movement, nature, and human transformation were simply part of the landscape. That environment sparked a lifelong curiosity about the body—not just as something to treat or fix, but as a doorway into greater presence, vitality, and connection.
I began my professional bodywork training in 2006, completing a 650-hour integrative massage program at ASIS and going on to study extensively at Esalen and with teachers in the United States and abroad. Over nearly two decades of practice, my work has been shaped by Esalen® Massage, Deep Bodywork®, energy work, Qigong, movement, and time spent studying traditional healing and internal arts in China. I am also an Esalen® Massage Teacher.
My sessions are designed to meet each person where they are. Some clients come to address muscular tension, stiffness, soreness, stress, or the physical effects of an active lifestyle. Others are seeking nervous-system regulation, deeper relaxation, greater mobility and body awareness, or simply an opportunity to slow down and reconnect with themselves.
My primary offering is customized therapeutic bodywork that weaves together the long, flowing strokes and meditative presence of Esalen® Massage with more focused Deep Bodywork® when appropriate. Sessions may also incorporate stretching, movement, breath, energy work, and other techniques depending on the needs of the individual.
Rather than following a fixed sequence, I listen to the body and allow each session to unfold as a conversation. My intention is to create an experience that is both deeply restorative and physically effective—helping release unnecessary tension while inviting a greater sense of ease, integration, and aliveness.
I currently offer sessions in Sausalito and Mill Valley, California, with select outcall sessions available in Marin County and in the Bay Area.
If your body has been asking for attention—whether through tension, stress, fatigue, restricted movement, or simply the desire to feel more at home in yourself—I encourage you to book a session. You don't need to wait until something hurts to receive bodywork. Regular massage can be a powerful practice for maintaining mobility, resilience, relaxation, and connection to your body.
Book an appointment today and give yourself the time and space to come back into your body.
