Jill Kauffman graduated from the Finger Lakes School of Massage in Ithaca, NY in 2007. She has worked in a variety of settings, from spa to medical massage clinic, from the east coast to the west coast. She loves using myofascial style work, hydrotherapy, and informed touch to help people find balance in their bodies, and to reduce stress and pain. She believes that healthy, nurturing touch is crucial to reducing stress and increasing a sense of well being. Jill aims to provide an integrative, balanced session that leaves you feeling relieved and nourished.
If there's one thing that we can count on, it's that things will change. As humans, our bodies are changing constantly, adapting to our environment--both external and internal. And while we have an overwhelming amount of choices and decisions to make each day, we often feel that we don't have a choice when it comes to how our own bodies feel. You CAN have more control over how your body feels! In our very busy world, slowing down to get bodywork like myofascial release, light touch therapy such as craniosacral, and other massage techniques can have a profound effect on your sense of wellbeing, both mentally and physically. Here's why:
When you are receiving a massage, we are communicating with your nervous system. The message might be to a specific muscle telling it to lengthen, to your fascial network encouraging it to soften and glide, or it might be the overarching message that you are calm, cared for and safe. It is this communication with your nervous system that shifts you out of sympathetic (fight/flight/stress) and into parasympathetic (rest/repair/heal), where your mind and body can be more at ease and begin to move out of pain and/or tension. We are re-teaching your brain that THIS is what it feels like to be relaxed, to be free of tension in a certain area, to feel safe and cared for. Whether your experience is profound or subtle (and I would argue that it is often both), these shifts are positive and will improve your quality of life. By choosing this care for your body, you can choose to initiate change, and experience a shift. It's one way to make a change...for the better.
