I created Flow Wellness to provide massage therapy in West Stanwood, WA. In high school I dreamed of being a massage therapist and was actually already practicing with my natural affinity for touch. I saw how giving my mom a foot massage would transform her mood, melt away her stress, and bring her comfort and peace.
My parents encouraged me to go to university, and so I did for several years. While at the University of Washington, I worked part time for a chiropractor. One day, a client came in with a coupon for an introductory massage. He had just graduated from school and was kicking off his practice by offering a 90 minute massage for $30! This was 1995 and an offer I couldn’t refuse. I lived alone and realized I hadn’t hugged a friend or touched anyone for weeks. During that massage I remember saying over and over “I think I’m going to live longer!” I had forgotten my dream of being a massage therapist and it all seemed new to me. Two years later, after much encouragement from my LMT and friends at school, I left the UW for the Brian Utting School of Massage where I graduated in 1998.
After practicing for two years in downtown Seattle’s Key Tower Gateway Arhletic Club, the pressures of life and divorce pushed me toward a career in corporate where I served for five years as an accountant, followed by many more as an instructional designer and technical writer. I kept up my LMT license with continuing education and always received massage as a faithful client on the table.
Life brought me a second marriage and two beautiful kiddos, then Covid and a plot twist. These last few years, I left corporate to care for canines on Rover and homeschool my kiddos. During this break from corporate, I found a way back to my dreamworld of massage.
It’s incredibly meaningful for me to practice again and support my community as a massage therapist. I’m so grateful to be able to heal with my hands and reconnect with my past, my family, and my own health journey.
After watching my uncle cope with Rheumatoid arthritis and then recently meeting and hearing from many others with the condition, I feel especially called to be part of the care team helping RA clients manage and find relief from the chronic pain they experience.
