Fundamentals of My Practice
At Phoenix Rising, my work is grounded in principles that go beyond technique—they form the heart of how I approach healing:
- Qigong — The foundation of my training and practice. Through breath, posture, and awareness, Qigong keeps me grounded and aligned, allowing me to direct energy with clarity and sustainability.
- Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) — Rooted in the flow of Qi through the body’s meridians, TCM teaches that balance and harmony are vital for health. I integrate these concepts to support both physical and energetic well-being.
- Hakomi Philosophy — I believe, as Hakomi teaches, that trauma and unresolved experiences can be stored in the body, where they may manifest as pain, tension, or imbalance. Creating a safe, supportive space allows the body to release what it has been holding.
- Breath, Intuition & Gentle Presence — Healing doesn’t require force. My focus is on breath, Qi, and intuitive touch to guide each session. My role is not to “fix,” but to facilitate, encourage, and support your body’s natural ability to heal.
- Mind–Body Connection — Mental health and physical health are deeply linked. I believe that healing the heart helps heal the body—and when the body feels safe and supported, it opens space for the heart and mind to heal, too.
My Techniques
Aromatherapy enhances massage by blending the therapeutic power of touch with the natural benefits of essential oils. Depending on your needs, oils may be chosen to promote relaxation, uplift mood, ease stress, or encourage grounding and focus. Through gentle inhalation and skin absorption, aromatherapy deepens the massage experience, supports emotional balance, and helps activate the body’s natural healing processes.
Deep Tissue Massage focuses on the deeper layers of muscles and connective tissue to release chronic tension and restore mobility. While it targets persistent knots and tightness, my approach emphasizes breath, Qi, and intuitive touch rather than force. Pressure is applied gradually and mindfully, allowing your body to relax into the work. This makes deep tissue effective without being unnecessarily painful, supporting both relief and long-term balance.
Hakomi is a mindfulness-based, body-centered approach that works with the understanding that trauma and unresolved experiences can be stored in the body, where they may create stress, pain, or imbalance over time. By bringing awareness to these patterns in a safe and supportive way, Hakomi techniques help the body and mind reconnect, release, and move toward healing.
While I am still early in my Hakomi training, I deeply value its philosophy and often weave elements of this approach into sessions. My focus is on creating a compassionate space where your body feels safe to let go of what no longer serves you.
Hydrotherapy uses the healing power of water in various temperatures to stimulate circulation, ease pain, and support recovery. I am trained in hot stone therapy; however, I choose not to perform hot stone massage due to liability concerns. Instead, I incorporate safe applications of temperature contrast—such as cold stones or alternating warm/cool compresses—to reduce inflammation, relax muscles, and support the body’s natural healing processes.
Lymphatic Drainage is a gentle, rhythmic technique that supports the body’s lymphatic system, which plays a vital role in immune health and detoxification. By encouraging the natural flow of lymph, sessions help reduce swelling, ease fluid retention, and promote relaxation. Because lymphatic drainage is so light and precise, it is especially supportive for clients recovering from illness, injury, or surgery—or anyone wanting to feel lighter and more energized.
Muscular Tendinal Re-education (MTR)® developed by Master Massage Therapist, Lonnie Jensen, is a specialized therapy that blends posture and structural alignment methods with principles of traditional Chinese medicine. It helps address both acute and chronic pain by releasing tension and rebalancing the body. While similar to trigger point therapy, MTR® goes further by incorporating energy work along the body’s 12 meridians to encourage deeper healing and pain relief.
Posture integration addresses the way your body carries itself in daily life. Using movement education, stretching, and targeted bodywork, I help release chronic holding patterns and retrain healthier alignment. This work is especially beneficial for people with workplace strain, repetitive movements, or long-term pain related to posture. The goal is not just relief, but improved body awareness and ease of movement in your daily activities.
Quantum Touch is a gentle energy healing technique in which the therapist uses focused breathing, body awareness, and intention to raise their own vibrational frequency. Through resonance, the client’s body naturally attunes to this higher vibration, activating its innate ability to heal. This process can reduce pain, promote relaxation, and restore balance—without the client needing to actively participate. Unlike Reiki, which primarily channels universal energy, Quantum Touch emphasizes the practitioner’s active role in raising and directing vibration with precision. While it can be offered as a stand-alone service, I naturally weave elements of Quantum Touch into most of my massage sessions to enhance their effectiveness and depth.
Reflexology is an ancient practice that applies pressure to specific points on the feet, hands, and ears that correspond with different organs and systems of the body. By stimulating these reflex points, reflexology helps release tension, improve circulation, balance energy, and activate the body’s natural healing processes. The result is deep relaxation and a renewed sense of balance.
For many, Swedish Massage is the most familiar and classic form of massage therapy. It uses gentle, flowing strokes to reduce stress, ease muscle tension, and promote relaxation. Pressure can be light and calming or adjusted for a more therapeutic effect, depending on your needs. Benefits include improved circulation, flexibility, better sleep, and an overall uplifted mood. This technique also stimulates lymphatic flow, supporting detoxification and whole-body wellness.
Targeted Stretching techniques help improve flexibility, ease tight muscles, enhance circulation, and increase body awareness. Sessions can include dynamic, isometric, or proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) stretches, tailored to your body’s needs. Whether you’re recovering from a workout, managing tension from daily activities, or aiming to expand your range of motion, stretching supports mobility and overall vitality.
Drawing on the principles of Traditional Chinese Medicine, this approach uses acupressure and energy balancing techniques similar to acupuncture—without needles. By working along the body’s meridians, I help restore the free flow of Qi (vital energy), encouraging harmony between the body’s systems. Clients often experience reduced pain, improved circulation, emotional balance, and a deep sense of grounding.
