Definition
Reflexology is a science based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet and hands that correspond to all organs, glands and parts of the body. Its goal is to encourage the release of blockages/congestion in and around the nerve endings while stimulating circulation and improving nerve and blood supply throughout the entire energy system.
Reflexology is not a foot massage. It works to release uric acid and toxin build-up in the feet and hands.
How Does Reflexology Work?
There are over 7,000 nerve endings in each foot. As circulation in the feet slows down, crystalline deposits form at the nerve endings. By using a deep-compression thumb technique, the deposits are broken up, helping the body function normally and also to decrease pain.
Reflexologist find that specific reflex points that are congested and maybe tender/painful. Working these reflex points can feel granular, bumpy, and puffy to name a few. By using the deep compression technique, the crystals are broken up so they can be reabsorbed by the blood and lymph system and excreted from the body.
Why I love this modality!
· Reflexology looks at how our emotional stress can affect our physical body.
· The session is typically 50 minutes and you can get in and out in an hour. Perfect for those working and on their lunch hour or that don’t want to feel “lotiony” after a massage and then continue on with their day.
· Many people do not want to undress for a full body massage. Reflexology only requires you to take your shoes and socks off.
What can you expect from a session
Start out with a foot soak in an Epsom salt bath with lavender or peppermint essential oil. Then you will lay on the table to receive the reflexology session for about 45 minutes. Finish with hot towels for your feet to remove extra lotion.
Timing
Ideally, I’d like to see you once a week for the first 4 weeks to start out with. This will give you the best results. You can also choose to schedule when you want to come as well either with a single session to try it out or multiple sessions. After that it depends on how far you want to spread out the sessions. It helps if you are adding in other things like exercise, yoga, meditation or chiropractic care into your routine.
