Being a professional singer and musician, I attended Peabody Conservatory as a Vocal Performance Major and later became a hospitality and entertainment professional with a BA in Modern Language and Linguistics (UMBC) and later went to acheive an Associates of Applied Sciences in Massage Therapy (AACC) coupled with opening my massage practice and shifting gears into a new career field of manual therapy. It is with my innate sensitivity, patience, attention to detail as a musician and intuitive intellectual, that I have exceled at palpation and reading/listening to the body as a Massage Therapist in my private practice. Just like the discipline art/science of music, massage therapy requires both discipline and nuance. With the goal of healing, I integrate techniques and continue learning to help my clients to heal. I grew up right outside of DC in a town called Riverdale. My Dad was an entrepreneur and veteran of the Navy, son of a very educated mother who was a teacher and a WWII veteran/electrician- my Grandma Bea and Grandpa Walt. My Mother is a writer and musician and taught Special needs teens and preschool, more recently is finishing her dissertation for her Doctorate at Georgetown. The first band I was in was with my Mother and she directed us in her Community Theater projects with plays and music she wrote. Her father was a Jamaican diplomat/painter/historian/documentarian/author, my grandpa Carey, and her mother, a Polish American turned Jamaican citizen who was a Shakespearean actress, Opera singer, and painter. Mom and Dad met at the University of Maryland when Grandpa Carey was stationed in DC and they both happened to take a philosophy class together. Mom fresh from the island of Jamaica and Dad fresh from the Navy. There were 5 of us girls, all sisters, and I was the 2nd born. My first job was with my Dad, helping file his business invoices at age 11 and beyond and I started my own pet sitting business thereafter with the same inspired self-starting spirit. Always a runner, active, and with dance as a staple part of life, I became popular amongst my swim team friends and family as good at back and shoulder rubs. I grew up with baby sisters I helped raise knowing that hugs and affectionate touch made all the difference with boo boos or later, heartbreaks.. Dad would send me gift certificates to receive massages after my own heartbreaks and any physical ailment. He believed in the power of massage therapy and in me. Now I have 3 teenagers of my own all interested in the healing arts and sciences for their careers and I am excited to see where their journeys lead them. I am now working to become a Certified Craniosacral Therapist through the institute of founder and discoverer/creator of Craniosacral therapy, Dr. Upledger, after seeing the dramatic and profound results this light touch therapy has offered my clients just in learning the first 10 step full body protocol and in integrating techniques into regular sessions. Brain fog lifting, chronic pain dissipating, the feedback and emotional releases have led me to this new passion alongside my lymphatic work and intuitive myofascial and deep tissue release massage therapy work. Stay tuned because we are just getting started! Every intake, every client, every session is unique, and I tailor make every session, every time like a fitted garment to provide relief, comfort, and hope to all who come to my table.
Go on, be a good friend and share MassageBook with them. They'll love you for it.
