At a young age, though I didn't know it then, I knew I wanted to be a massage therapist. My father was a self-employed house painter, and my mother; a stay at home mother. Together they did their best to raise my five siblings and me. This was no easy task and it provided additional stresses to their bodies. At the end of each long day, my brothers and I were tasked with massaging their necks, shoulders, backs, and feet. Before long, this became my chore solely. I earned incentives so I didn’t ask questions. As time continued, I began to see and appreciate what I was doing for my parents. Before I would start, they’d have these expressions of their pains, and when I’d finish these expressions shifted to feelings of joy and relief. I didn’t know what massage therapy was, but by 12 years old, I knew I wanted to be one so I could share my abilities with and for others. At 24, I now knew what massage therapy is, and I have been helping others by providing therapeutic massage treatments ever since.
