This course presents the theoretical foundation and the fundamental palpatory skills used in full-body massage therapy. Students will master the basic strokes of effleurage, petrissage, friction, vibration, tapotement, and compression. An emphasis is placed on developing appropriate bolstering and draping techniques, proper body mechanics, and effective communication skills. Indications and contraindications to massage are discussed, with a focus on integumentary system pathologies. Stretches and exercises for self-care are demonstrated and discussed. By the end of this course, the student will be able to take a thorough wellness history, plan a session, and do a full-body massage with modifications if necessary
MassageBook will be used to track Lab and homework assignments for the course. We are also using MassageBook to familiarize students with digital client management.
MassageBook will be utilized in conjunction with Moodle.
