Hello Curious One. Are you ready to move with ease, experience less pain, enhance your performance, and realign your posture? Are you ready for a bodywork modality with long lasting, sometimes permanent corrective effects?
Welcome to the world of Rolfing® Structural Integration.
Rolfing® Structural Integration is a systematic, hands-on approach designed to improve the body’s structure, posture, and overall sense of well-being. Through precise work with the body’s connective tissue, we help create better alignment and balance — allowing you to move and feel your best.
At Natural State Rolfing®, we guide clients through the Rolfing Ten-Series™, a progressive process that supports long-lasting postural change and greater ease in movement.
The Rolfing Ten-Series™ consists of ten carefully structured sessions that systematically realign and balance the body’s structure within gravity. Each session builds upon the previous one, addressing specific regions while integrating the improvements into the body as a whole — creating a more balanced, efficient, and naturally aligned way of being.
This approach was developed by Dr. Ida P. Rolf to help the body unwind old patterns of strain and restore its natural organization through the fascial network—the connective tissue that supports and shapes the entire body.
While every client’s experience is unique, the Ten-Series generally follows three distinct phases:
1. The Sleeve Sessions (1–3): These sessions focus on the outer layers of fascia, improving breath capacity, mobility, and overall adaptability.
Session One: Enhances the quality of breath through work on the ribcage, and addresses the relationship of the pelvic girdle and shoulder girdle on the thorax. *Great for increasing breath capacity for Asthma and linger COVID effects, tension after a cold, releasing stress carried in shoulders and neck, addresssing discomfort in hips.
Session Two: - Enhances stability by creating a new foundation of support for the body, addressing the feet, lower legs, and knees. *Great for treating plantar fasciitis, addressing knee pains and overworked calves.
Session Three: Establishes a sense of the front and back of the body by working the side lines. This completes the sleeves series allowing for access to the deeper fascia layers. *Desk workers and runners/cyclists dream session, releasing forward shoulders, and begins addressing lower back pain via hips and the infamous IT Band.
2. The Core Sessions (4–7): Attention shifts to the deep myofascial layers, addressing the body’s central line of support. The goal is to create better alignment, stability, and connection through the core structures to improve movement.
Session Four- Introduces a mid-line by working the inside arch of the foot and up through the inner line of the leg, extending up to the bottom of the pelvis. In this session, we will be working respectfully inside the of the sits bones. *Freedom with leg swing, adductors release, more arch and calf work.
Session Five - Working the front of the body, this session balances surface and deep abdominal and lower torso muscles including the psoas muscles and low back. In this session, we will be working deeper and painlessly inside the abdomen to reach the hip flexors. *Hip flexors delight! Alleviates lower back pain from sitting, frees tight quads and addresses abdominal & digestive discomforts from c-sections, abdominoplasty, and of the like.
Session Six - Working the back of the body, this session addresses the support and movement from the legs, pelvis and lower back via the sacrum. In this session we will be respectfully readdressing the inside of the sits bones and tailbone. *Addresses tension from tight claves and hamstrings, sciatic nerve pain and piriformis syndrom. Frees the sacrum!
Sessions Seven - Addresses the head to body relationship with work on the shoulders, neck, jaw, and head. This session we will be introducing intranasal (inside the nose, prepare for the deepest breath you've ever taken in your life) and intraoral (inside the mouth). *Addresses headache pains, opens sinus pathways, jaw clinchers and TMJD affected clients delight!
3. The Integration Sessions (8–10): The final phase brings the outer and inner structures into harmony. These sessions emphasize integration, coordination, and efficient movement, helping the body work as a unified whole within the field of gravity.
Session 8 and 9 - These sessions are unique to each client dependent on the Rolfing Ten-Series™ goals for that individual. One session will be on the upper body while the other will be done on the lower body, readdress any area which may need more attention.
Session 10 - Solidifies a sense of order for the body and brings the series to a close by balancing the the structural relationships as a whole. This session is similar to Swedish Massage with Rolfing® techniques and intentions.
Throughout the Ten-Series, we will work together to support new patterns of alignment and awareness. The result is often a sense of ease, balance, and lasting change that extends beyond the treatment table into daily life.
