Hello and Welcome!
I am a Therapist helping facilitate positive change and self-awareness through mind and body work.
Through the use of manual therapy and hypnotherapy I will assist you in reconnecting with your body in a safe and professional environment.
MANUAL THERAPY:
I specialize in Fascia.
Fascia is the most abundant tissue in your body. It is found on both superficial and deep levels, wrapping and intertwining itself around groups of muscle, organs, bones, blood vessels and nerves. It contains about six times more sensory nerve endings than muscle itself.
"[Fascia] is a single interconnected web of collagen and pressurized fluid that virtually disappears when the human body is dissected. It is essentially a sealed hydraulic system that functions only when you are alive." - Bill Parisi, Fascia Training.
Because of its extensive nature, fascia plays an important role in postural alignment, its health is imperative to the state of well-being of your body. Modifications of the elasticity of fascia can result in loss of mobility. These modifications are known as Osteopathic lesions, scars, adhesions, snags, trigger points, knots, etc. They are caused by a number of factors including surgery, injury, repetitive motions or stagnation. Manual therapy can unwind, and restructure these areas to restore balance to the fascial system.
Sessions can be done without the use of oil, and the pace is slow and relaxing. You can be fully clothed, wear shorts and a tank top, and/or be draped with a sheet.
MYOFASCIAL RELEASE:
This technique is specific to the fascia around muscles (the Greek word for muscle is Myo). It is useful for treating chronic pain, muscular and joint injuries, postural imbalances, scar tissue, adhesions, and trigger points. Myofascial Release uses specific, direct pressure and sustained stretching to release the fascia that is restricting the movement of the muscle through the fascial sheath.
FASCIAL INTEGRATION:
This technique can be used to address issues in the fascia indifferent to its location. With specific movements and precise points at the fascial crossings this therapy unwinds Osteopathic lesions, and adhesions to restore balance.
WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT AFTER A SESSION:
This work enhances the mind-body connection by addressing the autonomic nervous system. This elicits great relaxation and stimulates healing.
In the first 24-48 hours after your treatment you may notice slight tenderness or muscular soreness. 48-72 hours after your treatment you will begin to experience subtle to deep changes in your body. This is the period of time that your body is taking in the new information and the healing begins taking place. For this reason, repeat sessions are not scheduled closer than 7 days apart.
It can take six months to two years for the body to build up balanced body-wide fascia elasticity. However, you should begin to notice subtle changes to your body and your emotions within the first few hours or your session. These changes differ from person to person and are dependent on may factors.
HYPNOTHERAPY:
Many of us know hypnosis as a staged show designed to entertain and awe. While the foundations of hypnosis have remained the same over the decades, the applications of it have evolved into an impressive therapeutic tool.
Hypnotherapy allows us to access our subconscious mind through the use of guided imagery and suggestions for a positive change. Hypnotherapy can help sort out things such as habit control, relationship issues, chronic pain, etc., and help expedite recovery from trauma.
HYPNO-MASSAGE:
Hypnotherapy can be done independently or in combination with body work, called hypno-massage, to maximize results for chronic physical and emotional pain. Whatever feels right for you is what will benefit you the most. You will feel a deep sense of relaxation, allowing you to access the powerful force that is your own subconscious mind.
INTAKE SESSION:
My work offers a unique blend of physical and emotional therapy to help you reach your highest and greatest good. It is intended to help you achieve homeostasis through the relief from chronic pain. At your initial session we will discuss your goals, take a thorough history, and decide together what will best serve your needs.
CRANIOSACRAL THERAPY :
As described by the Upledger Institute:
CST is it gentle, hands on method of evaluating and enhancing the functionality of the physiological body system called the cranial sacral system which is comprised of the membranes and cerebral spinal fluid that surround and protect the brain and spinal cord. Using a soft touch generally no greater than 5 grams, or about the weight of a nickel, practitioners release restrictions in the cranial sacral system, which has been shown to improve the functioning of the central nervous system, as well as many other systems of the body, such as digestive, musculoskeletal, respiratory, circulatory, and more. CST has also been shown to help with the physical components related to such somatic conditions as post traumatic stress, depression and anxiety. By facilitating the body's natural and innate healing processes, CST is increasingly used as a preventative health measure for its ability to bolster resistance to disease and has been shown to be beneficial for people seeking help with a wide range of health care challenges such as and not limited to:
migraines, headaches, chronic pain, motor coordination impairments, central nervous system disorders, orthopedic problems, traumatic brain injuries and concussions, Alzheimer's, spinal cord injuries, scoliosis, conception, pregnancy and birth, pediatric challenges, learning differences such as ADD and ADHD, autism and sensory processing, chronic fatigue, emotional difficulties and depression, stress and tension related problems, fibromyalgia and other connective tissue disorders, temporomandibular joint syndrome and dental challenges, immune disorders, post traumatic stress disorder, post surgical dysfunction, and sleep challenges.
ABOUT ME:
I graduated from the Finger Lakes School of Massage in Ithaca, NY in 2005.
Since graduation I have continued my education in various modalities associated with body work and its associated emotional components.
Studying under Carrie Taylor, RMT, LMT, CPT, BSc, MS, I earned my certification in Myofascial Release in 2017.
Attending The Hypnosis Motivation Institute of Tarzana California, I earned my certification in Hypnotherapy in 2021.
I continue to pursue an understanding of Fascia and all of its functions, working through classes offered by Anatomy Trains under the guidance of Thomas Myers. I find this work to be fascinating, inspiring, and most importantly, effective.
I have completed training in Levels I & II of Craniosacral Therapy through the Upledger Institute and will continue to pursue Somato-Emotional Release over the coming months.
I believe there is a link between our human experiences and the manifestation of dis-orders or dis-eases within our bodies. I am passionate about exploring and understanding those links in order to provide a pathway for the highest and greatest good of those seeking help through my practice.
