I integrate Myofascial Release with the principals of structural integration and manual osteopathic techniques in an advanced form of bodywork with the goal of improving function and reducing pain by unwinding old patterns and building new more efficient ones. Frequently your movement is incorporated into the manual therapy techniques to help optimize your bodies adoption of this therapy. It takes several days for your body to fully adopt the effects of this treatment.
Disfunction most often occur through poor posture, overuse, repetitive athletic movements (weight training, running, golfing, swimming, yoga, pilates, tennis, dancing, ect), occupational demands and through direct injury.
Over time your body adapts patterns around these events and begins to move in a manner that protects these areas and develops issues in other areas as a result. Myofascial Release effectively treats your current issues whilst tracing back the patterns that have led you into your current condition.
-- IS THIS LIKE A DEEP TISSUE MASSAGE --
No. Deep tissue massage can often be indiscriminate in its selection of pressures and aplication often relying on a "routine". This can often be to forceful causing the body to brace itself into a protective response and generating temporary fixes. Myofascial Release is more deliberate in its application and waits for your body to respond to the therapy before seeking deeper layers and relationships.
-- DOES MYOFASCIAL RELEASE HURT --
This therapy is not typically described as painful. It often feels like pressure followed by slow melting or release of tension. It is common to feel sensations in seemingly unrelated areas of the body. This is your body changing the way these areas coordinate with each other. These fascial connections may or may not make sense to you at the time, but instead of trying to figure out the sensations, it is best to simply feel them. It is common to feel some soreness the next day but it will resolve itself quickly and you will feel relief afterwards.
