KC TAYLOR, LMT specializes in the John Barnes approach to Myofascial Release (MFR).
Myofascial Release is different than traditional massage. It's a powerful hands-on modality that can reduce pain & increase mobility. Clients remain clothed and sessions are 60, 90 or 120 min. Ask about new client specials. Discounted multi-session packages are available.
HOW CAN MFR HELP?
MFR is extremely beneficial in reducing pain and increasing mobility. Many diagnoses it can aid in are: low back pain, slipped/herniated disks, TMJ, migraines, cluster headaches, carpal tunnel, tennis/golf elbow, shoulder girdle immobility, neck pain, post-surgical scarring, bursitis, tendonitis, hip/pelvic pain, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue syndrome, the release of past trauma, neurological dysfunctions, whiplash, adhesions & more. Please reach out to see if MFR is right for you.
WHAT EXACTLY IS FASCIA?
Fascia is the most prevalent connective tissue in the body. We can conceptualize fascia as a 3-dimensional net. From the skin to the bone, it wraps around and goes through every muscle and tendon fiber all the way down to every muscle and tendon cell. Fascia is found throughout adipose and other tissues in the body as well. It wraps around blood vessels, veins, arteries, and nerves. One of its main functions is providing the capability of gliding movement throughout the body. Fascia can become bound due to trauma, lack of motion, consistent repetitive motions or habitual patterns in the body.
MFR:
Sustained holds that Lengthen muscles & open fascia. For health, vitality & well-being. The John Barnes Approach is a safe, effective, and non-painful modality. Though we can get to great depths within the soft tissue of the body, nothing is ever forced, therefore you should never be in pain when receiving this work. Because the relaxes and releases of its own accord, the effects of multiple sessions can shift the body into a new more harmonious way forward, a way forward where you can be pain-free.
WHY THE "SUSTAINED" HOLDS (working slowly)?
When a positive outside influence (a therapist) utilizes sustained pressure, movement, and stretching, they are working to bring the body into a meditative state. Just as the mind is capable of releasing unneeded thoughts, emotions, and behavior patterns while in a meditative state, the body too is capable of releasing unneeded and/or stuck energy, tension, or old habit patterns. We refer to these as "bound points". We work with the client to unbind these points.
WHY "LENGTHEN" MUSCLES
The primary role of muscles in the body is movement. When muscles become tight (from repetitive motion, strain, or stress) they limit blood flow, efficient movement, and function. When muscles are chronically tight, the individual efficiency and holistic balance of the body become diminished.
Utilizing movement, stretching, and practices such as yoga or Tai-chi enables an individual is able to lengthen and increase the "flow" of their own muscles. With the addition of a positive outside influence (a therapist), one is able to "lengthen" a step beyond, resulting in more efficient movement, greater range of motion, increased blood flow, and decreased pain or discomfort.
WHY "ŌPEN" THE FASCIA?
Unlike the muscles that receive the information to expand or contract from the nervous system, bound fascia can only be released through elements of movement, relaxation, or a positive outside influence (such as a therapist). When the fascia is "bound", it can put constricting pressure (up to 2,000 pounds per square inch) on sensitive areas such as nerves, blood vessels, and muscle groups. This pressure can limit the range of motion, as well as cause pain, discomfort, stiffness, and general unease.
HOW TO PREPARE & WHAT TO EXPECT FROM YOUR MFR SESSION:
Please refrain from using lotion on the day of your appointment to ensure optimal skin contact, you can use it after our session, of course. The work is done free of lubricants or oils providing a deeper reach into the fascia.
Please wear exercise clothes (or bring them and change at our office), such as a sports bra and running/yoga shorts. Also suitable would be 2 piece bathing suits for women, or boxers, briefs, or swim trunks for men. John Barnes MFR must occur directly on the skin for best results— your safety and comfort are always respected. There is no need to fully disrobe, appropriate sportswear is how this work can be most effectively applied.
Hydrated tissue ensures optimal results from your bodywork — please arrive hydrated!
You will receive a full 60 minutes "on the table". Any communications will be before and after your time on the table and not included in the 60 min. It's best to schedule 75-80 mins for our whole time together.
John Barnes MFR is non-injurious, at no point should you ever experience pain. Though, moments of "therapeutic discomfort" may be required for some releases.
Expect for yourself to naturally move into a deeper mind-body connection and an enhanced connection to your own breath.
Individuals can feel a range of emotions post-session: anything from deeply relaxed to fully energized.
Be sure to drink plenty of water after the session to help rehydrate the released fascia, for more effective results.
A percentage of clients sometimes feel soreness the next day. An even smaller percentage can have the body shift into "therapeutic chaos". Either of these typically lasts only a day or two. In fact, they are working signs that the body is moving into a more balanced and harmonious state.
Expect to be empowered with information and proactive "homework" that will expedite the positive shifts that we are looking to effect.
