My story: I’m a soulpreneur and empath. I can feel other peoples’ emotions, and I seek meaning and purpose in my life and career. That meaning and purpose is to facilitate others’ personal healing journeys, whatever that looks like for them. Maybe you’ve been struggling to make a change in your life. Maybe you struggle with self-worth. Whatever it is, I would like to help you.
As a child, I was often called “sensitive” (in place of “crybaby”!) because my emotions were always close to the surface. In fact, many times it didn’t take much to make me cry. I felt very strongly, especially when I was sad or hurt, and I learned as a young person to bury this deep, so that I wouldn’t display my emotions and be teased by my peers for it. It was known in my house growing up, that if there was any kind of sad story or moment on tv, I would be blubbering about it on the sofa! I can laugh about this now because I didn’t realize then, that this sensitivity served me; it allowed me to feel others emotions as well, and having learned how to protect my own emotions (some days this is easier than others), it now enables me to be a stronger reiki practitioner. Knowing how sensitive I am now is empowering.
I never realized I was a soulpreneur until the last few years, and really, it finally sank in this past year (2021-2022). I know what it’s like to work in a field that gave me no fulfillment, soulful or otherwise. It didn’t start out that way, though. I had ambitions and was motivated to progress my career within my industry, like most people, but things never quite worked out how I wanted them to.
I graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2010 with a major in Psychology, having studied this with a yen toward helping other people in whatever way that I could. In the D.I.S.C. personality test, I’m an S first (Supporter) and a C close behind (Carer). In other words, I care about supporting people. This has backfired on me, as I’ve given support and care to others, but not to my own success. This is my own realization and life lesson, but that’s another story.
Having been in school for so long (Elementary school through to Post secondary education with a co-op program added on), upon graduation I felt a need to start making money in order to support myself. From here I began a 10 year career in the “corporate” world. Attempt after attempt to further my career within my organization failed. It finally dawned on me that maybe I’m not meant to be working within this business, or in this field. Or at least, maybe I’m not meant to find the success that I’ve been searching for, here. My time in the corporate world has served a purpose, and I wouldn’t have had this realization without those failures.
