I have spent many years dealing with MF issues not not fully understanding the role of the fascia. Working in the medical field we were trained about muscle, ligaments etc.. but the fascia, received little mention. I've tried Physicians, Chiropractors, Massage therapy, P.T. with no measurable relief. Often Myofascial focus is on the the short term injury i.e. sports injuries. Physicians most often wanted to treat with pain meds that can have many side effects, such as constipation, which would trigger more medication(s) to treat. The Vagus nerve often has a large impact on MF pain. MF pain syndrome & the Vagus nerve I've read can illicit, heart rhythm changes, G.I. (gut) problems, psychiatric components, to name a few, all of which could cause more and more medications to be prescribed. I found that there was a direct physiologic psychiatric component to my MF pain syndrome as well. When I had increased trigger points I would experience, this feeling of anxiety, >cognitions narrowed, > impending doom, > & ultimately almost a dissociative quality. When the fascia & Vagus were calmed, I was ready to go, get back to my daily activities, and my horizons opened.
