My decision to go to school for massage was a little bit of an impulse decision. I was told several times from friends/teammates that I was good and should consider it as a possible profession. My decision to go to school for massage was a little bit of an impulse decision. I was told several times from friends/teammates that I was good and should consider it as a possible profession. I never thought anything more of it until a tech school that offered massage came and did a presentation at my high school. I started looking into it and decided it was worth the shot. I enrolled in York Technical Institute (YTI) from 2008-2009 for the massage therapy program. I enjoyed learning about the body, how the muscles work together as synergist, as opposites and the pathologies and injuries that can cause them to not function properly. It really opened my eyes to how much we don't know about our bodies and how they work unless we end up in a healthcare profession.

Massage Therapy
Light energy work used to help relieve restrictions of the meninges in the brain and spinal cord, so the nervous system and the rest of the body can better heal itself. This modality is great for those who cannot handle hands-on massage because of ailments like Fibromyalgia.
15-20 minute on site sessions. Usually performed in office environments.
Deep focus on one specific area of the body, incorporated into a Swedish massage.
Also known as 'Trigger point therapy.' Uses compression on knots in the muscle bellies to release them. Can be somewhat uncomfortable but should never be really painful.
Basic massage, used as a foundation for other modalities to build on. Also known as a Relaxation massage.
