A Touch of ZEN helps clients find peace and serenity in their own body and mind through a combination of Swedish massage, deep tissue massage, therapeutic massage, and reflexology designed to meet individual needs.

I’m Akira, owner and principal massage therapist at A Touch of ZEN. I have lived in America for 25 years, but I was born and raised in Japan. I grew up experiencing the power of the traditional Chinese herb and healing practices that are common throughout Asia. We believe that healing occurs more rapidly when both the body and mind are soothed, and that many illnesses are caused or worsened by untreated stress.

My therapeutic massage methodology is designed to relieve stress, reduce pain, increase flexibility, and enhance overall wellness. Sessions are customized to include a variety of massage techniques based on each client’s specific needs and concerns.

What to expect on your first massage visit

When you make an appointment for your first massage, we will send you a confirmation email that contains a link to an online general health history form to fill out. Your massage will be customized to your needs so it is important for us to be aware of past or present injuries, surgeries, illnesses, etc. Please fill out the form completely before you come to your appointment. In certain medical situations, massage may not be appropriate, or we may need more information or approval from your physician or other health care providers. You can be confident that your personal information and everything about your massage will remain strictly confidential and protected in compliance with HIPAA procedures.
Arrive at least 10 min early for your appointment so that we have adequate time to discuss your treatment plan. You will be shown into a treatment room where we can talk privately and you can ask further questions as necessary.
I will leave the room while you undress to the level of your comfort (most people undress down to their underwear or remove everything) and slip under the sheets on the massage table.
I will knock the door to enter the room and the hands-on massage session will start. During your massage you will be “draped” or covered (except for the area being worked on) to maintain your privacy. I will never work on breast tissue on women or around genitals of either sex.
