I first came across massage in the middle of an extraordinarily difficult pregnancy wherein I faced several serious,potentially life-threatening issues for both myself and my baby. My first massage was instrumental in easingthe anxiety I had during this very difficult pregnancy. Because of its profound therapeutic effect onme, I decided that massage therapy was my life’s calling.

During my pregnancy, I appreciated thatmassage therapy was a form of natural medicine that assisted in treating myaches and anxieties rather than adding more medication to what I was alreadytaking. Though there are restrictions onhow to massage people with different issues, massage is generallyavailable to most people and it has positive effects on both physical maladiesand on behavioral health issues. It alsohas significant positive benefits for babies and young children. Possibly what I like most about massage isthat I can see or feel the physiological response in real time and I can see myclients improve as I work on them.

I prefer an integrated approach to massagetherapy. Each massage should be tailoredto the individual client’s needs – keeping in mind the client’s comfort levelduring the massage and the client’s desired outcomes from the massage. Many people associate neuromuscular therapy asa more aggressive technique, but taking an integrated approach I am able toutilize this traditionally more aggressive technique more gently along withmyofascial release and still achieve the positive benefits these techniques provide.An integrated approach allows me to focus on a wider variety of people, whileachieving positive results for all.
