CALM Healing Center LLC is a dream of creator Elysa Smeltzer. With years of life experience in physical and mental healthcare for herself as well as many family members and friends, she has a depth of understanding. The great and elusive person who “gets it”, Elysa has continued to seek new techniques and concepts to help recover and grow the body, heart and soul. Recognizing the glaring deficits in the current state of western medicine was the beginning of the journey. Elysa decided she could create the service she wished existed. Combining massage with the practice of informed “talk therapy” seemed like a natural pairing and something already happening in untrained sessions all around the country! Adding the “homework” exercises, both emotionally enriching as well as physically rewarding, for clients to do in the times between sessions, makes this approach not only empowering but creates sustainable growth for the client.

Massage services are the initial catalyst for the healing clients will experience with CALM Healing Center LLC. With a combination of relaxation, stretching AND deep tissue as needed and dictated by the client’s muscles in the moment, each massage session addresses old injuries as well as current dysfunctions. Each session will be peppered with education about how the body works and what it's telling the client. The way a person stands, sits, walks, sleeps and plays can all affect the residual pain or problems a person experiences completing daily tasks. By teaching the client how their body works as the therapist works those complimentary muscles and joints, it creates a tactile and physically pleasant connection with what their body wants from them. This makes a lasting memory to draw upon as they make small corrections in day-to-day movements. The end of sessions will include demonstrated and/or printed stretches and strengthening exercises that correspond with the areas of complaint. Upon subsequent sessions, the areas treated can expand and the difficulty of the homework can expand as well, to give the person the growth they are seeking.

The additional therapies will vary by each client’s needs. This can include the “talk-therapy" during massage sessions, or used exclusively as life coaching sessions. Guided meditation classes will help those struggling to find calm alone, and yoga will facilitate the stretching and strengthening the body needs regularly. Calm Healing Center offers art therapy classes and spiritual healing guidance in both individual and group structures. Much of the therapies are essentially padded into the skills of the therapist as they work through any service, to make for a more intuitive and whole-person approach for the client. Since it’s often hard to separate, and many of the therapies actually enforce each other. For example, a client taking a walk with homework about focusing on foot fall on the ground is good for practicing improving gait functions, while also being an opportunity for mindfulness and the healing of a client’s body-mind connection.

The company is named with the simple acronym C.A.L.M. for coaching and licensed massage, but represents endless possibilities, because when we know better, we can do better! Even with education and resources, we often lose the understanding of how our bodies work and how they communicate with us. By addressing this, we can continue to re-engage the emotions and instincts that our body uses to protect us from traumas and empower us to great triumphs! We believe that giving people the safe space to embrace both the pain and the power of their spirit and its magnificent vehicle can energize someone from one life stage, into the next!
