Leah Knowles, LMP graduated in 2001 from the Heartwood Institute's Massage Therapist program accomodating Washington States 550 hour requirement, and then completed the 1000 hour Holistic Healing program, which included Cranial Sacral Therapy, Shiatsu, Neuromuscular Therapy, and a variety of other useful modalities and techniques.

Since that time, Leah has gone on to study Lymphatic Drainage Therapy, Visceral Manipulation, and Lowen Systems:  Fluid Pressure Dynamics, among other modalities.

Her work regarding injury is most often focused around addressing postural distortions as a source of pain, enhancing the motility of structures in congruence with the rhythms and flow of fluids, including blood, lymph to, from, in and around structures.  'Motility' refers to the inherent movement in three planes, as all structures are always moving, even when the body is still.  'Structures' include muscles, ligaments, bones, organs, blood vessels, nerves, anything that isn't a fluid.

Also, doctors may refer specifically for Lymph Drainage Therapy for specific conditions, some which may otherwise be contraindicated for other types of massage, including Lymphedema, fractures, severe swelling or bruising, pre- and post surgery.  Certification to treat Lymphedema with Manual Lymphatic Mapping is through the teachings of Dr. Bruno Chikly, MD, DO:  http://chiklyinstitute.org/ldt/applications.htm.

With this combination of the therapies, along with years of clinical experience, Leah is qualified to work with patients of all ages, infant to elder, treating almost any injury or condition a doctor may refer for massage and/or Lymphatic Drainage Therapy.

Also, pregnant women find benefit from Lymph Drainage Therapy early in pregnancy to help create some balance for morning sickness early on, and for swollen ankles later in pregnancy, and Cranial Sacral Therapy can help ease a body through the changes a woman experiences while accommodating the unborn child, and then again, after the child is born.  This type of massage is a gentle and relaxing way to nurture yourself during this precious time.

People who want to lose weight or make gains in fitness benefit from Lymph Drainage Therapy, as sometimes losing weight may hurt or feel exhausting before it starts to feel better.  This is due to the release and slow exit of toxins.  The sooner you get that stuff out of your system that makes your goals seem painful, the sooner you will be able to realize all the ways that you are hoping losing weight and increasing fitness will feel good.  I really enjoy helping people with this process, though I acknowledge, it's not always easy, it takes time and it can be very frustrating.  If it was easy, it would not hurt, and it would have already happened last year.  I admire the diligence it takes to remain true to such goals

Anyone who is experiencing any kind of extra stress, whether it be due to an overwhelming situation which will soon pass, or a long bout with anxiety, depression, or post traumatic stress, all of these concerns may benefit both simply from the profound relaxation this work may invoke, and also from the balancing of chemistry that is often involved in stress, including fight or flight type chemistry, or a build up of stressful hormones as the lymph drainage helps move out chemistry that feels bad, at the same time you are relaxing and creating chemistry that feels good.  Along with the release of tension patterns that may come along with these states of being, this type of massage is perfect in conjunction with what ever else a person may be doing to help themselves function and feel better in today's overly complicated world.

What's that, you don't have any such life changing events in sight, nor do you have an injury, condition, or reason to consult with a doctor?  You don't even have any stress?  Lucky you!  Treat yourself to an hour of relaxing massage that is designed specifically around promoting your already excellent health.  Lymphatic Drainage Therapy and Cranial Sacral Therapy both are often compared to floating on top of water, when it comes to the relaxation this work promotes.  Your body will thank you for the good care, and you are likely to notice a greater ease in maintaining great posture.

Magic Fingers. I walk out pain free. I have problems with fascia pain, the fibrous stuff around muscles. I go to my massage, thinking the pain is a lot today, and think there is no way she is going to be able to get all the pain to go away. But she does. It is nice to have a relief from the pain. She is easy to talk to. You can choose to talk or have a quiet session. She knows her trade well.

Leah is a fabulous caregiver and I always come away feeling so much better. She is very knowledgeable, skilled and exhibits the height of professionalism in her chosen field. We are so lucky to have her in our community. I am lucky enough to see her once a month and when I was in crisis, I was able to see her weekly. Her kind and caring massages helped clear my body and mind of toxins from some medical issues. I highly recommend her to everyone that I care about in the hopes that they will be able to feel better and become more healthy with her help.
