I practice a Reiki-infused, intuitive form of Swedish Massage. I start from the first principal that massage is supposed to feel good. While some pain is unavoidable when dealing with deep, chronic adhesions, I believe that the neurological relaxation response is a powerful ally that is lost if the massage technique is too aggressive. In particular, I have found that it is a mistake to work with painfully deep pressure on muscles that are sore due to intense exercise, as it takes tissue that is inflamed and makes it more inflamed. Paradoxically, by working gradually and with the assistance of Reiki, clients will often find that I am able to get in deeper and provide more relief than they would experience with a more aggressive approach. Expect to leave a Mike Habetz massage feeling like a new person.
