Why hold on to pain and tension?

Pain greatly reduces our ability to enjoy life and live to the fullest. Research suggests that much of chronic pain exists because of tired, over-stressed muscles and that disease originates because of stress. The good news is that we can release our pain and stress, thereby regaining our vitality and enjoyment of life. Massage plays an important role in this process.

I view massage therapy as healthcare, not a luxury. Though it is quite relaxing and enjoyable to receive a massage, massage strengthens the immune system, improves flexibility and injury recovery, stabilizes mood and appetite, and reduces cortisol, the stress hormone. It is an excellent complementary treatment for many acute and chronic conditions. I integrate various modalities into my work, including deep tissue, Swedish, hot stones, and cupping, but in treating specific symptoms, I utilize neuromuscular (trigger point) work to release constrictive holding patterns in the tissues. TMJD, whiplash, headaches, and low back pain are some of the most common conditions that I address, all of which respond with great success to massage.

Massage for the whole family, integrating mind and body

To further my technical skills, I attended trainings in Medical Massage through the LMT Success Group and NMT for Headaches, Whiplash, and TMJD through the Western North Carolina School of Massage. I have also been a Reiki practitioner since 2009, trained by Bonnie Hassan in Pittsburgh, PA. As a mom, I realize that massage is an invaluable tool for communicating with and caring for our children. Massage helps them sleep, relieve constipation and congestion, and offers many more health benefits. It's also a wonderful way to bond and nurture our children. In order to promote and share this gift, I became certified through the internationally recognized Liddle Kidz Foundation as a Pediatric Massage Therapist and Infant Massage Instructor. I then received additional training in working with children on the autism spectrum and with cancer. Prior to becoming a massage therapist, I was a counselor for traumatized and mentally ill youth and their families for 6 years, as well as a researcher in the field of social work for 3 years.
