I was originally attracted to Massage Therapy because many of the people I saw in my personal training practice and in the ultra marathoning community had physical limitations due to musculoskelatal issues/restrictions. I used massage therapy on a regular basis to address these issues in myself and wanted a more professional, licensed background to "fix" them. What I found out in my educational journey was that I can help people be healthier through therapeutic work, but ultimately we heal ourselves. My year long program at MATC was not only a journey of technique and musculoskelatal learning, which was how I initially approached it, but a mind an heart opening experience as well. All the technique in the world will not be useful if you are not a grounded therapist with good intention. You can't know everything, but you should continue to learn, and always, always, be kind. So while my main focus coming into the program was clinical work, I know now how important and healing the simple act of touch can be. An hour relaxation massage can be as therapeutic, or more, than a focused clinical session.
I have a wide range of interests and will be continuing my education through courses such as the John F. Barnes Myofascial Method, sports massage, kinesiology taping, and Thai massage.
I currently offer Massage Therapy at Custom Fitness Specialist personal training studio where I work as a personal trainer as well. I see a wide variety of clients and love seeing how massage can help each individual be healthier in body, mind, and heart.
