Hi, my name is Matthew Wells and I'm an RMT (Registered Massage Therapist) in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada. I obtained my registration in September 2016 and have been practicing Massage Therapy ever since. My main passion/hobby is Powerlifting, where I have qualified for National competitions under the International Powerlifting Federation, I also semi-regularly compete in the local competitions. Because one of my biggest passions is strength training, it has altered the way I percieve soft tissue recovery. While I do believe Massage Therapy can benefit people in many ways, I also believe that appropriate strengthening and stretching protocols should be given for anyone who has sustained a soft tissue injury, the reason being, is that it has been shown that Massage in conjunction with appropriate remedial exercise has been shown to be much more effective than just one over the other. Overall I want my clients to leave me feeling less tense, more mobile, and have the tools they need to circumvent the mechanism of injury that helped to cause the soft tissue damage the client currently suffers from.

Diploma of Massage Therapy
I have been training and competing seriously in the sport of Powerlifting since 2014, I have had the pleasure of being directly coached by a multiple time World Champion. I have accumulated much experience since my first competition, having won 1st place in the 83kg, 93kg, and 105kg weight classes muliple times in the Provincial championships, as well as 1st place in the 83kg, and 3rd place in the 93kg class in the Eastern Canadian Championships.
I have completed the Instrument Assisted Soft Tissue Mobilization course taught by Mike Reinold, PT, DPT, SCS, CSCS , and Erson Religioso III, DPT, MS, MTC, Cert. MDT, CFC, CSCS, FMS, FMT, FAAOMPT. Both of these men are at the forefront of evidence based therapies and studies into soft tissue recovery modalities. I completed my certification in 2017, and incorporate it into my Massage Treatments depending on the specific issue being treated.
Because of my experience in the sport of Powerlifting, I have been asked by many people to perform movement corrections, form adustments, and even strength programming. I've been performing these services in clinic, and as well as doing improptu information sessions at a few gyms across the city I currently practice in.
