Personal Background:
Prior to becoming a massage therapist, Carly spent many years working with non-profit organizations and crisis centers (LGBT homeless youth, domestic violence shelters, after school groups with at-risk youth). She also has 10 years of experience answering domestic violence and rape crisis lines, as well as an LGBT support line.
In contrast to the above, she worked as a carpenter's apprentice and a tile setter apprentice, worked as a semi-professional photojournalist, survived 3 years as a front desk hotel/hostel clerk, owned a feminist retail/art gallery/community space and was well on her way to mastering the perfect cappuccino at a locally owned coffee shop before leaving to study massage full-time.
When considering a new career move - she weighed and measured all of her skill sets and realized that what she loved most was working with her hands and helping people, thus - the healing path of massage and bodywork...
Bodywork Background:
Carly has studied with some of the very best in the holistic bodywork industry through the School of Healing Arts, the International Professional School of Bodywork (IPSB) and Greet the Day.
She approaches each client with compassion, curiosity, a learner's mind and a deep understanding of the modalities she practices and their powerful capacity to heal.
Carly customizes each session to meet the needs of her clients using a therapeutic blend of Swedish Massage and Rhythmic Deep Tissue and Deep Tissue Sculpting - adding in Sensory Repatterning, Neuromuscular Therapy, Tui Na, Table Thai and/or Structural Integration where and when needed.
She also offers more gentle modalities, such as Jin Shin energy work and Lymphatic Drainage, both of which are done while the client is lying face up and fully clothed. These two modalities are perfect for people who may have health issues that contraindicate traditional massage work or who are simply looking for something new to help with issues such as joint pain, sleeping problems, anxiety, stress and depression.
