Myofascial Release (MFR) is a sage and very effective hands-on technique that involves applying gentle sustained pressure into the myofascial connective tissue restrictions to eliminate pain and restore motion. 'Myo' means muscle. 'Fascia' is a thin, tough, elastic type of connective tissue that wraps most structures within the human body, including muscle. Fascia supports and protects these structures. Fascia is the substance that allows flexibility and strength. 'Release' pertains to unwinding and relaxing a group of connected muscles/fascia that are bound together due to some king of misalignment or imbalance. MFR allows the tissue to separate, making space for more beneficial movement. It is slow work and highly effective, especially for old injuries and chronic pain. MFR encourages lymph flow which supports the immune system, expands range of motion, and decreases muscle soreness.
