I’m Meghan Shand, licensed massage therapist since 2007 and owner of Maine Body Alliance.
In 2004 I tore my ACL while playing soccer. That injury took me out of the game--as well as work--and my road to recovery looked bleak. I had reconstruction surgery which did not go well; it left me bed-ridden for 4 weeks and without feeling in my uninjured leg. I was just 22 years old and completely bummed.
I struggled with the physical recovery and with pain killers for 4 years during and after the incident. After the long and painful recovery process, I knew I needed to change my chosen career path of Outdoor Recreation to something that would not leave me wondering what bumps lay on the trail ahead, quite literally.
So began my journey of Massage Therapy and Personal Training. I have been in the massage therapy industry for 12 years and have worked with a variety of clients, from as young as 10 years old to 95 years young, and from semi-professional athletes to stay-at home moms. I became fascinated by muscles and anatomy and how the body moved, especially with how the hips and shoulders work. After experiencing my own low back pain and shoulder injuries, I took it upon myself to find new ways to help others experience improved range of motion and move pain-free.
In my spare time you can find me outside rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, snowboarding, cycling, or mountain biking. I relocated to Maine about 2 years ago in search of my outdoor recreational roots.
