I’m Meghan Shand, licensed massage therapist since 2007 and owner of Maine Body Alliance.

In 2004 I tore my ACL while playing soccer. That injury took me out of the game--as well as work--and my road to recovery looked bleak. I had reconstruction surgery which did not go well; it left me bed-ridden for 4 weeks and without feeling in my uninjured leg. I was just 22 years old and completely bummed.

I struggled with the physical recovery and with pain killers for 4 years during and after the incident. After the long and painful recovery process, I knew I needed to change my chosen career path of Outdoor Recreation to something that would not leave me wondering what bumps lay on the trail ahead, quite literally.

So began my journey of Massage Therapy and Personal Training. I have been in the massage therapy industry for 12 years and have worked with a variety of clients, from as young as 10 years old to 95 years young, and from semi-professional athletes to stay-at home moms. I became fascinated by muscles and anatomy and how the body moved, especially with how the hips and shoulders work. After experiencing my own low back pain and shoulder injuries, I took it upon myself to find new ways to help others experience improved range of motion and move pain-free.

In my spare time you can find me outside rock climbing, hiking, backpacking, kayaking, snowboarding, cycling, or mountain biking. I relocated to Maine about 2 years ago in search of my outdoor recreational roots.

I am in pain most of the time and Meghan listened and focused on the areas that needed attention. I left there feeling better than I have for a year.

Amazing therapeutic session. Meghan made a huge difference in my upper back and neck with honoring my request for light pressure. Are these really my shoulders? They feel so different in an awesome way!

Meghan is, without a doubt, the best massage therapist I've had, and I've gone to dozens over the years (some for extended periods). It's amazing to me when someone lays hands on you and knows, for instance, which side I carry my bag on, or what's changed in my exercise routine. Pressure and focus has always been perfect, she's suggested stretches that have helped when I'm away from the table, the myofascial release work has been amazing. Highly recommended.

I recently had a massage with Meghan and it was amazing! As a chiropractor, I routinely receive massages for overall wellness and maintenance. Many of my patients are massage therapists and I like to see them all at least once to know how they work and which of my patients would be best served by them. Meghan did a wonderful job and I felt amazing afterward. I also found that she focused on some muscles that other massage therapist oftentimes neglect or focus less time on. Overall, I would say if you are considering booking you should save yourself the time of wondering and just book a session - you will not be disappointed!

Meghan has a variety of skills she uses to target my needs for increased range of motion in my shoulders and also treat pain in my low back and hips. I've been seeing her for over a year. After every visit I leave the table with much less pain than when I came and my range of motion over time has increased a lot! She's one of the most effective body workers I've used and highly recommend her service.
