When I graduated from Nursing School, a large part of what I learned was to offer comforting touch to my patients. This was expected and appreciated, and often was the only touch a hospitalized patient may have received that day. As the medical field evolved and changed, the touch part of nursing was cast aside.....as has also happened in our society in general.
