If you don't take care of your body, where will you live?

My name is Jen Patterson and I am a licensed massage therapist. My name is Jen Patterson and I am a licensed massage therapist. I feel blessed to be in the business of helping to heal others by bringing about a better sense of wellness to the body through massage therapy. As a college athlete, I learned how to push my body to limits that seemed impossible. Unfortunately, sometimes pushing through those limits brought on pain. It wasn’t until many years into my massage career that I started to question the “no pain, no gain” philosophy. Pain serves (or should serve) as a warning sign to the body that something may be wrong. Often times as an athlete, we learn to tune out this signal. But if we tune out too long, these signals turn into pain and dysfunction. Massage therapy is a wonderful way to bring awareness back into the body (prevention) and can restore wellness so that the body can continue to do what you ask it to do (healing).
Following my undergraduate degree in Kinesiology - Exercise Science from the University of Kentucky in 2001, I went on to complete a massage therapy certification program in the Bluegrass in 2002. I have worked in numerous settings including physical therapy, athletic training, personal training and fitness gyms. I have travelled with various college-level sports teams, worked hundreds of triathlons, marathons, cycling events and various other sporting events around KY as a on-site massage therapist. Aside from seeing clients in my private massage practice of over 19+ years, I previously taught at Lexington Healing Arts Academy for 11 years and partnered with various local race directors in Kentucky to provide on-site event sports massage for athletes participating in events. My clinical massage training is in Myofascial Massage Therapy, Trigger Point Therapy, Lymphatic Drainage Therapy (LDT), Cranial Sacral Therapy (CST1) and Orthopedic/Sports Massage Therapy. I am also certified in Kinesiotaping.
In the last 6 years, I have leaped into the world of essential oils with Young Living. I now include essential oils (aromatherapy) in almost every massage session and love the added natural benefits it has to offer my clients. As a little girl, I loved the idea of being a medicine woman like in traditional Native American culture. Today, I am grateful to be gifted with the healing hands of touch in bringing restorative wellness back to the body. I am on a quest for deeper knowledge into health and wellness.... and am honored to share this journey with others.
