While volunteering at The Caring Place, in Las Vegas, Sally met many other
women who had undergone mastectomy surgeries and who were still in pain, with
restricted range-of motion, years after their surgery. They had come to believe that this was 'the
norm' for breast cancer survivors. It
became apparent that there was a huge need for this technique.
Jennifer Shulte-Denman joined Sally at Thérapie in 2011 and together they created a continuing education class – ‘Breast Massage – The Spurgeon-Shulte Method©’ which is approved by the National Certification Board for Therapeutic Massage and Bodywork. The class is now available to massage therapists and health-care providers everywhere and has been taught to the therapists and medical staff at The Chopra Center in Carlsbad, CA where the technique is now available to their guests.
Sally is very grateful to the wonderful therapists and staff
who have joined her at Thérapie and to the many women who have become her
‘breast friends’.
