George began his Massage Therapy studies in June 2004, at Oregon School of Massage (OSM) in Portland, Oregon. He chose this school for their “Body, Mind, Spirit” approach. In June 2006, he graduated a Massage Therapy program of 555 hours at OSM, completed his National Certification exam, and licensed in the state of Oregon in August 2006, as a Licensed Massage Therapist. His studies included Therapeutic Massage, Clinical Application and Assessment including the use of Manual Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, Compression and Deep Tissue Massage. The massage program he completed also included Anatomy, Physiology, Kinesiology and Pathology as it relates to Massage Therapy.

A Shiatsu Massage introduction class was also part of the curriculum. Upon completing this class, George realized he wanted to learn Shiatsu, Eastern Massage, and enrolled in the 309 hour Shiatsu Practitioner Program, which included study in Chinese Medicine, Cupping, Qigong, Dao-Yin (self-care massage) and Tai Chi. He completed this program in September 2007. The Shiatsu Practitioner Program at OSM was created and developed by Jim Cleaver, L.Ac., co-founder of the Chinese Medicine Department at the National College of Naturopathic Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon.

George was also a Teaching Assistant for Cleaver at NCNM for one Shiatsu Class and a Teaching Assistant at OSM for several years. Other OSM studies included Massage for People Living With Cancer, Oncology Massage in the Outpatient Clinic (a volunteer position at OHSU’s Chemo Outpatient Clinic), Reflexology  and First Degree Reiki. He also participated in many public events that OSM made available for students, including Summit to Surf, Nike LIVESTRONG Ride, Timberline Marathon, and relief efforts for displaced victims of Hurricane Katrina, who had been relocated to the Portland area.

After licensing in Oregon in August 2006, George started a part time Private Massage Practice in his home. In February 2007 he began working full time as a Massage Therapist at Lake Grove Chiropractic Clinic in Lake Oswego and had the privilege of working there, honing his skills, for 14 years. He has worked with clients with many different injuries and complaints over the years, helping them in reducing pain, increasing flexibility and mobility, and educating them on prevention. In April 2020, George received his Chiropractic Assistant Certificate through Lake Grove Chiropractic Clinic.

George absolutely loves working as a Massage Therapist and helping his clients. His number one priority is his clients’ safety and health, and he is honored by their confidence in his ability to be of service to them.

2021 is offering a new chapter in George’s Massage Therapy career by joining Mandy Beeman and her Massage Therapy Clinic, Serenity Bodywork and Massage, as Lake Grove Chiropractic Clinic closes and Dr. Shawn Harrington, DC, retires. He looks forward to working with his current clients, and all the new clients he has yet to help, at Serenity Bodywork and Massage.

Licensed Massage Therapist

For the past 14 years I have worked as a full time Massage Therapist at Lake Grove Chiropractic Clinic, which is now closed due to the DC's retiring. In that time I have had the pleasure of helping many chiropractic patients with their injuries and discomforts with my Clinical and Therapeutic Massage skills including Manual Trigger Point Therapy, Myofascial Release, Compression and Deep Tissue Massage. I have also helped clients with their aches and pains from aging, exercise and weekend warrior activities with Relaxation, Therapeutic and Shiatsu Massage at both the chiropractic clinic and my home studio. The Shiatsu Massage I perform was developed by Jim Cleaver, L.Ac. and is referred as Kata Shiatsu as it is a choreographed massage designed to help realign the bodies Qi. This massage is done without the use of massage lubricants, is a clothed massage with loose clothing worn and includes Acupressure, Joint Mobilization with some stretching, Petrissage and Percussion. Clients with time constraints like this type of massage as they don't need to unclothe, just remove shoes and any belts, and up on the massage table for a relaxing, rejuvenating and energizing massage experience. I also have experience working with a number of expecting Moms, helping them with many of the discomforts that a pregnancy can bring. In addition, I have worked as a volunteer at OHSUs Chemo Outpatient Clinic helping to comfort cancer patients receiving chemotherapy after completing the 20 hour class, "Massage for People Living with Cancer" taught by instructor Gayle MacDonald. This education has given me the ability to work with a more fragile group of people to help them with their needs as they relate to massage therapy. In addition, I have experience working with athletes at both event sites and in the days and weeks that follow their event activities helping them in their recovery efforts.
