My fitness and teaching background led me to an interest in physical therapy so I became a Physical therapist Assistant, primarily working in skilled nursing facilities. That led me to an interest in massage. While working in rehab I began to realize that massage was more than just a comforting addendum to PT, but could be enormously therapeutic. My surprise at the amazing results I got from doing short sessions of massage in conjunction with other modalities planted the idea in my head of going back to school once again. I consider massage to be therapy even if it's "only" helping to create relaxation and decrease stress. It lessens pain and fear, brings comfort, improves circulation and range of motion, restores balance to the mind and body. The amazing thing is that it is a therapy that people enjoy! It always makes people feel better!

Physical Therapist Program
Have worked primarily in inpatient rehabilitation settings with a variety of conditions, illnesses and injuries including hip and knee replacement, cardiac, stroke, back surgery, amputation, dementia, difficulty walking, motor vehicle accidents, etc. Frequent modalities used include gait and transfer training, therapeutic exercise, electric stimulation, ultrasound, and diathermy; soft tissue massage used when appropriate to increase range of motions, decrease edema, improve circulation and decrease pain. Additionally, I have a fitness background including Group Exercise Instructor, Personal Trainer, Water Aerobics instructor, and Life Guard. While I am new to massage I feel my background in fitness and physical therapy with knowledge of functional and structural anatomy and movement gives me a huge head start. I am also very comfortable and experienced in working with disabled and elderly populations.
