Leiya grew up in the beautiful hills nestled between the South and Middle Yuba fork, also known as “The Ridge” in Nevada City, California. From a young age, Leiya felt a deep empathy for those around her. The pain and suffering in the world was a unbearable weight in her child heart. She felt truly, that She had to do something to make a difference. As Leiya got older she discovered a passion in birth work and maternal health. She chose to have pre med focus in college to open the possibilities for a career as a health professional. While attending school, Leiya took a doula certification course and spent the following year volunteering as an intern and doula at an Oakland birthing center. During her time there, she discovered that being on call didn’t suit her life at the time, but she felt certain she was on the right track. After graduation Leiya decided to become a certified massage therapist, which would allow her to practice techniques such as the Arvigo® Techniques of Maya abdominal Therapy (ATMAT) and continue working with the community she felt so drawn to. Together with her training, deep care for the well being of others and desire to make a difference, Leiya’s practice has come to fruition. Leiya Mahoney Massage and Bodywork is a bi-local practice. appointment times are available to Oakland and the greater bay area twice a month, as well as Nevada City and the surrounding Sierra Nevada foothills.
