Massage can do so much more!

  • What attracted you to a career in massage?
I had a friend with a terminal illness who was helped more by massage and other "alternative" modalities than he was by conventional Western medicine.  That put massage on my radar.  From there, I realized that a career in massage was actually more in keeping with my values and work preferences than was my existing career as a web developer.

  • Which school did you attend and which certifications do you hold?
I attended Central Maryland School of Massage in Frederick in 2008.  I have a MD state massage license.  I also worked in Washington State for several years, and acquired a certification in intraoral massage for TMJD (In Maryland, though, anyone with a license can do intraoral massage).

  • What techniques do you specialize in? What issues or conditions does your work help improve?
I do integrative massage, which means I incorporate multiple modalities into what I do.  The modalities that I use most often include Trigger Point, Deep Tissue, and Swedish massage.  I also use myofascial release, stretching and hot/cold therapy sometimes.

I specialize in working with people who have pain, tension, mobility issues, and/or health issues.  I prefer longer-term clients with whom I can work to find a combination of massage techniques, lifestyle changes and healthcare services that helps them feel better. When I work with a client for more than a session or two, we have a chance to experiment and see what helps them the most.  I also do additional research on their condition(s).

  • What hobbies and other interests do you have?
I have a pet dog and parrot who take up a lot of my time. I sing in the Frederick Chorale, take voice lessons, and play card/strategy games with friends.

Cynthia did a great job focusing on my problem areas

This was exactly what I needed. Cynthia is strong and gentle at the same time. Just the right amount of pressure. I felt both relaxed and energized afterwards! And I loved that she had suggestions for what I can do at home to feel better.

Cynthia was very professional and knowledgeable. I will schedule again.

I have been using Cynthia for over one year and she is one of the most professional therapists I have ever met. My favorite part and reason for staying is how well she listens and cares. Most therapists just have you lay down and they do their set "routine." However, Cynthia takes the time to listen to your pain areas and asks questions to clarify what you need. She sees me every 6 weeks and it is a customized massage every time, love that!

Cynthia gave me therapeutic massages following an auto accident. Her massages greatly helped improve my pain levels and range of motion and I would highly recommend her.

I see Cynthia Lewis for weekly massages, and think she's wonderful! She's extremely skilled at deep tissue and hot stones, as well as being very gentle when it's called for. I have a sports related injured knee that she greatly helped, as well as a neck surgery from 25 years ago. She's also been really great for improving my range of neck motion, and reducing soreness. I heartily recommend her!
