Meet Rev. J. Maya Ravensong-Lawrence, (She/They) the visionary owner of Serenity Massage & Energywork. An accomplished and dedicated professional, Maya is not only an expert Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT) but also A northern Tradition Shaman, a Master Clinical Aromatherapist and a compassionate Death Doula, among many other roles.

Be Well

Hello!  I am Rev. J. Maya Ravensong-Lawrence. My journey has led me to many roles: Licensed Massage Therapist, ordained Priestess of the Old Gods since 1997, Northern Tradition Shamanic practitioner, award winning artist, Reiki master, author, educator, ritual facilitator, death doula, sacred dancer, and an Master Clinical Aromatherapist.
I started as an intuitive healer started in 1991, in aromatherapy. Over the years, my path evolved, shaping me into a Shamanic Practitioner well-versed in energy work, crystals, sound therapy, and beyond. I was ordained in 1997. This path took me to massage therapy and in 2010 I graduated from Universal College of Healing Arts.

This inspired the development of a groundbreaking modality in 2013—one I documented in my book, "BodyArt Therapy," published in 2014.

In September 2015, I proudly earned an Associates Degree in Applied Science: Massage. This achievement coincided with the birth of Serenity Massage & Energywork, which opened its doors on October 31 of the same year.

In 2016, I was an LMT for the 2016 USA Olympic Swim Team Trials in Omaha.
In 2018 that I was officially certified as a Master Clinical Aromatherapist.

I became Death Doula : certification from INELDA in 2019.

​March of 2020 saw the relocation of our home-based massage business to our first (though small) commercial space, where we flourished. Fast forward 18 months, and it became apparent that our growing small business needed to expand so in  January 2022, we signed a lease for a larger space with 4 rooms -one for couples- and a movement space.

In May 2024, we relocated again, expanding to 7 rooms with two couples' massage rooms, a large space for Dance, movement and ritual classes, better parking, better access and a flow of space that lends to the atmosphere of Serenity.

I never started out to own a large spa. But my experience as an employee at a  national chain and then the difference working for myself made for my health, finances and more, really made me wonder if I could "do it differently" for employees.

It is my dream to change the massage industry: how it compensates its service professionals. From higher pay, access to PTO and other benefits, tuition reimbursement, to enough time between clients to help prevent burnout and injury. We implemented all of these concepts into our business plan. LMT's should be able to have a good living without killing themselves or hating what they do. They go INTO this profession to help people- we support that and them by our business practices.
