J Birks entered the world of medicine through a series of immersive global experiences. While living in Europe and Asia, J saw the heavy appreciation and cultural dominance massage and cupping had in aiding the people with health needs and medical support. J Birks entered the world of medicine through a series of immersive global experiences. While living in Europe and Asia, J saw the heavy appreciation and cultural dominance massage and cupping had in aiding the people with health needs and medical support. Curious about the nature of these long practiced systems, J studied and made a goal of spreading these gifts in the United States.
Upon returning to the United States, J sought massage training with a global emphasis. After earning his massage license, J attended college and became the first person in the United States to earn a Bachelor of Science degree specifically in Massage Therapy.
During this time J also trained in the discipline of cupping. The exploration of this often over simplified approach to treatment brought additional insight and inspiration to clients and skeptics alike.
J is grateful to offer these lasting traditions to help clients as therapist, educator, coach and mentor throughout Chicago. Having experience with people from 4 months of age to 104 years, individuals and groups, J welcomes all to this humble practice.

Served as massage therapist for women's roller derby league, the Chicago Outfit. Comprised of three teams and a number of support staff. At practices and competitive events, provided functionally specific treatment for 100+ athletes at varying levels of performance for the purposes of enhancement, maintenance and rehabilitation. From 2010-2016.
Certified Flexibility Coach
Trained in the implementation of function specific mobility to augment massage work for clients of all activity levels. Certified by Fitness and Health Professionals 2014.
Massage Cupping Certification
Educated in the use of " Massage Cupping" for muscle relaxation and detoxification via the lymphatic system. Certified by Advanced Continuing Education in 2011.
East West Master Cupping Certification
Intensive cupping study with one of the world's top cupping researchers. Trained in the applications of 8 European and Asian countries' medical approaches. Certified by Health Traditions in 2013.
Tui Na Certification
300+ hours of education in the traditions and applications of Chinese Physiotherapy. This training is usually only offered to those who work in Chinese hospital settings. Certification awarded by Pacific College of Oriental Medicine in 2009.
Certified Cupping Therapist
Expanded offerings of cupping using more modern equipment and proficiency in Contemporary Cupping Methods. Certified by the International Cupping Therapy Association in 2014.

Served as primary instructor for the Chinese Physiotherapy discipline Tui Na. Educating 123 future practitioners in basic and advanced applications for multiple populations from 2012-2014.
