My career in massage is not
something I found, Massage found me. Coming from a family where one parent who
was therapist who practiced for over 20 years gave me a unique inside
perspective of the industry. One might think that was where my influence to
massage came from, however it took me a while to come around to the idea. I
originally had different more mainstream aspirations, yet after some time
pursuing other interests I made the discovery that health, happiness and
helping others would lead me down a much more fulfilling path. Combined with a
knack for problem and puzzle solving, my discovery lead me to learn that I love
working with my hands and have a deep fascination with how the muscles interact
in the human body.
I attended massage school at Renton Technical College,
where I received a comprehensive education in the classic way of massage
education that is now somewhat difficult to find. School and internships
combined were 1000 hours, with one well-qualified teacher, one class, 7hrs a day,
5 days a week. Throughout schooling I learned a vast array of modalities, from
Swedish Relaxation, Hot-Stone, Cupping Massage, and Lymphatic Drainage, to Deep
Tissue Treatment, Trigger-Point Therapy, Sports Massage, Joint Mobilization,
Chair Massage and more. Despite a vast education, I have found that some of my
most effective work comes from combining learned modalities with my intuition
and techniques that have uniquely developed over the last 5 years of practicing
massage; techniques which I still work towards perfecting every day.
Specialties of mine start with neck and shoulder
issues, particularly those resulting from driving or desk based occupations. I
am exceptionally good at providing relief from Headaches, whether you have an acute
headache (the kind you may be suffering from right now) or chronic headaches
(the kind that reoccur frequently) my massage can help. Many of my clients,
athletes, weekend warriors, or neither, have realized the benefits I can
provide even beyond just injury treatment; massage can provide injury
prevention. Sports massage pre-competition can increase range of motion, flexibility,
and muscle performance; during training or post-competition massage can reduce
recovery time and soreness. I have significant experience working with Thoracic
Outlet Syndrome (chronic numbness/tingling in the hands and arms) as well as
other range of motion related problems. Circulation or lymphatic issues, chronic
trigger point activity, trouble falling or staying asleep are included in
conditions I’ve helped my clients with.
Outside of massage I live a healthy active lifestyle that I try to keep congruent with the choices I encourage. I enjoy yoga in my life on a daily basis, I love riding my bicycle every chance I can, rock climbing, cooking, and the occasional hike or trail run. Acclaim Massage Therapy in the Herold Building is my blossoming new business that I’m getting started, and I also work at chiropractor off of Northwest Ave. called Bellingham Spine and Disc. Come see me at either of these locations and see what my hands can do for you.
