Trauma Conference: The Body Keeps the Score

Trauma Healing with Bessel van der Kolk, MD Nobody can “treat” abuse, rape, molestation, or any other horrendous event. What has happened cannot be undone. But what can be dealt with are the imprints of the trauma on body, mind, and soul. Bessel van der Kolk, MD, one of the most renowned trauma experts - one who has spent decades working both as a researcher and clinician. – and NY Times bestselling author of The Body Keeps The Score, presents in a 2 day transformational clinical trauma training. As clinicians, the challenge is to help clients reestablish ownership of their bodies and minds — to feel without becoming overwhelmed, enraged, ashamed, or collapsed. It takes specific methods, like neurofeedback, EMDR, meditation, yoga, mindfulness, and sensory integration. Dr. van der Kolk has used every one of these methods extensively to successfully treat his own clients, and has also experienced them himself. This 2-day conference will serves as both a guide and an invitation – an invitation to dedicate yourself to the pursuit of helping trauma clients with the best treatment approaches proven to alleviate suffering.

CranioSacral Therapy Touching The Brain 1: Stimulating Self-Correction Through The Glial Interface

How do CranioSacral therapy (CST) techniques reach into the brain or spinal cord? Is there a biomechanical pathway through which CST corrective techniques are transmitted from a practitioner’s hands into the depths of the central nervous system? If so, what cells form this corrective pathway, what do they do, and how do they help CNS healing and function? The answer to all of these questions may reside in glia. The CranioSacral system connects directly to the glial cell matrix of the brain and spinal cord. This connection is a powerful route by which you can use CST Glial technique to improve nervous system structure, function, healing and health.

Anatomy Trains-Brain/Nervous System Dissection

Tom says: Even though I have championed the fascial system my entire career, the strangest and without doubt the system we know least is the nervous system. In this one-day tour-de-force of dissection, we begin in the central nervous system. From the meninges to the brainstem, we will explore the major structures of the cerebrum and cerebellum, and their extensions into the cranial nerves. Module 1 ends with an exploration of the peripheral nervous system in the upper limb — the brachial plexus, axillary, and arm nerves. Module 2 continues our exploration out into the autonomic plexi of the lumbars and sensori-motor nerves all the way down the leg. Those interested in nerve and artery work and those working with pain syndromes are especially recommended to this event.

CranioSacral Therapy for Cranial Nerves

24 hours of study plus ongoing study group, by Karen Axelrod for Upledger Institute international. This course focuses on the anatomy and physiology of the 12 cranial nerves, how they might become dysfunctional, and how to help restore function using new and existing techniques and protocols derived from Upledger CranioSacral Therapy. The 12 cranial nerves are a key part of our nervous system and contribute greatly to our wellbeing. They oversee the five senses of smell, sight, hearing, touch, and taste. They help to maintain homeostasis and regulation of our heart rate, breathing, digestion, and blood pressure. They assist in maintaining our equilibrium and balance. New research shows that they play an important role in social engagement, trauma recovery, and human survival in mammalian social groups. Like any other nerve or physiological structure in the body, cranial nerves can become dysfunctional due to a number of different reasons: osseous or membranous restrictions within the cranium or cervical region; inflammation; injury, disease, or trauma; demyelination; poor intracranial pressure; or poor vascularization and blood flow. CranioSacral Therapists are in a unique position to be able to directly affect the recovery and function of cranial nerves through their structural and energetic practices.

Intro to Manual Lymphatic Drainage-MLD

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) is a gentle, rhythmic form of bodywork that enhances and supports the movement of fluid through the lymphatic system to support health and well-being. Developed by Danish therapists Emil and Estrid Vodder in the 1930s, MLD is now practiced extensively by health and wellness practitioners and is used within the medical community to treat lymphedema and post-surgical and post-traumatic edema. Taught by Nicola McGill.

Manual Lymphatic Drainage MLD

Manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) movements and the location of important lymphatic structures, and the MLD Vodder inspired techniques. MLD sequences for the neck and face. This important modality that, when provided effectively, can support and enhance the movement of lymph fluid through the lymphatic vessels and eventually back to the cardiovascular system. Taught by Nicola McGill.

CHI Lymphatic Drainage Therapy LDT 1,2 &3

Lymph Drainage Therapy is a cutting edge hands-on method of lymphatic drainage developed by Bruno Chikly, MD, DO. It was created out of his award-winning research on the lymphatic system consistent with recent scientific discoveries. LDT practitioners use their hands to assess and enhance overall circulation as well as determine the best alternate pathways for draining stagnant body fluid (lymph, interstitial, synovial fluid, etc…). Therapists work with flat hands, using all the fingers to simulate gentle, specific wave-like movements. These subtle manual maneuvers activate lymph and interstitial fluid circulation as well as stimulate the functioning of the immune and parasympathetic nervous systems. LDT classes are in person with several days of clinical experinces.
