In 2006 I began to experience symptoms of depression following the birth of my 3rd child in 3 years (no twins). My doctor wanted to put me on medicine, but I wasn't quite ready to do that. I spent the next year researching all of the different ways exercise can improve mental health as well as physical health. I started seeking out a variety of fitness activities and tried many of them. I have done general exercise (machines in the gym), running, bicycling, and triathlon. After a few years of only swimming, biking, and running by myself, I started losing my motivation. I first took several different types of group classes and found how motivating it can be to have people expecting you. I enjoyed HIIT classes and weightlifting the most. In 2015 I started CrossFit, and found a great community and exercise that really fit my personality. I became a Level 2 Instructor and started leading classes and doing personal training to share this experience with others.
