Bodywork is Good Medicine

I discovered during my massage training at the Center For Natural Wellness in Albany NY that I wanted to specialize in the technique known as Myofascial Release (MFR). Upon graduating from massage school and gaining my license from New York State in early 2011, I began training in the John Barnes style of myofascial release. This training continues today, and now totals over 200 hours of specialized continuing education. Additional seminars and webinars on the role of fascia in the body have supplemented this training, and the influence of Tom Myers' work also deserves mention as a significant influence on the style of bodywork that I do.

When I began my bodywork practice, I expected myofascial release to be one of several modalaties that I would draw upon when working with a client to resolve some physical issue. Yet early in my specialized training it became clear to me that working with restrictions in the fascial network of the body was a different way of working with the tissue than other forms of massage, even a different way of thinking about how the body works.

At the same time, I began to see evidence that myofascial bodywork can help to alleviate symptoms ranging from frozen shoulder to fibromyalgia, and headaches to backaches. The scope of working with the fascial network in the body is very much an emerging field in science, and I find it tremendously exciting to offer this work to my clients. The list of conditions for which myofascial bodywork can be helpful is both lengthy and expansive.

I currently split my time between the Albany NY area and northeast Ohio. I see clients at studios in Auburn OH, just outside Chagrin Falls; and at studios in Albany, Troy and Schenectady in New York State. In all of these places, I use the business name Good Medicine: Myofascial Bodywork. I truly believe that myofascial bodywork is good medicine.
